  2. 2008 Congo Football (soccer) Riots • September 14th 2008 Socozaki VS Nyuki. • Butebo, Nord-Kivu, Democratic Republic of the congo • This riot was started because the players using witch craft during the game to turn it around

  3. The riot was between the players • 13 people were killed by suffocation • 36 were severely injured • All except a few where children between the ages of 11-16

  4. 'FOOTBALL HOOLIGANISM' • A hooligan is a violent young trouble maker who’s rowdy and violent and destroys things without thinking of the consequences • Usually football or universities

  5. Hooligan Battles • They consider riotsa sport its called “fair play”. • In 2005 because it was filmed there was over 200 people on each team • Rules • No weapons • Chose sides in advanced

  6. Russian Hooligans • They are known for there violent behavior for football. • The Russian Army ruled the football stadium and at times were worst then the fans beating them viciously.

  7. Polish • When the unemployment rate raised in 1990 this made a lot of people angry • They released there anger destroying things. • They tried copy England who has a huge reputation for sport riots.

  8. Italian Hooligans • Italian put on shows at their sporting events making banners and having flares, smoke effects and fireworks. • They will do anything to support their teams they will fight for it using things like knives and other weapons. The highest profile case was at the game between Catania and Palermo where a police officer was killed from a home made bomb. The police now try and use tighter security

  9. Nika Riots • Lasted a week • The earliest known incident of sport riots was in 532 C.E • It was violent ugly and uncontrollable • With almost half the city being burned down and tens of thousand dying • The Hagia Sophia was burnt down.

  10. Chariot racing • Teams • Blues • Reds • Greens • Whites Some of the green and the blue team were arrested for the deaths in the riots. They were sentenced to death and hung. Two of them escaped but where later captured by an angry mob
