  1. “So I’ll Cling to the Old Rugged Cross” 1 Corinthians 2:2

  2. The Focus on the Cross:% Content on Palm Sunday and After Matthew: 28 chapters, Chapter 20:17ff (25%) Mark: 16 chapters, Chapter 11ff (37%) Luke: 24 chapters, **Chapter 9:51ff (62%)John: 21 chapters, Chapter 12 (48%) Q: What did the Holy Spirit want us to KNOW?

  3. The Apostle Paul on the Cross “…nothing except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified…” (1 Corinthians 2:2). “But may it never be that I boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Galatians 6:14) Personalized: “I have been crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20)

  4. The Apostle Paul Humbled Over Time 1 Thessalonians 2:10 (52 A.D.) – “You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers” LATER IN LIFE = 1 Timothy (63 A.D.) “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all” (1 Timothy 1:15). John 3:30 - “He must increase, I must decrease.” The Cross humbles US, magnifies JESUS! John 12:32

  5. What Role Does the Cross Play for YOU? “We must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it” (Hebrews 2:1). “If you believe… God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved…” (Romans 10:9-10). “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

  6. Why is Death, Burial, ResurrectionSo Critical to the Mission? Death is Satan’s greatest tool in his war on those created in the image of GodGenesis 1:26,27; 1 Corinthians 15:26 “hit me with your best shot; fire away!” DBR of the believer describes the rebirth of believers in the Lord Jesus – THE criteria for entering heaven (John 3:3) DBR pictured in water baptism (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:41)

  7. The Difference: Christian Religion/Moralism vs. The Gospel! The first teaches us to be nice, “to actChristian” do good works, love everybody, to control outward expressions of behavior The second – calls for death to self, rebirth, radical, fatal condition called sin that from which we need to be saved; change the heart, change the behavior! Jeremiah 17:9 – “the heart is desperately wicked”

  8. The Crux is the Cross! No cross, no resurrection, no hope –  No cross, no propitiation (1 John 2:2)** you remain enemy of God, subject to His wrath  No cross, no blood, no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22)You are still in your sins, no way out! 

  9. March 8Devotion “I have Been Crucified With Christ”“Being born again means by the Spirit of God means that we must first be willing to let go before we can grasp something else.” Have you let go of … ???
