    1. ANCIENT EGYPT 6TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES With ELL ADAPTATIONS

    2. Goals and Objectives How the geography of the Nile River Valley helped ancient Egyptians? Recognize the power of Egypt’s Pharaohs Recognize that art, technology and a writing system created artifacts, written history, and monumental history. Explore the online learning environment (Web Quest). Students will organize and present their research finding to the class.

    3. ANALYZE LEARNERS sixth grade social studies class includes ELL students who have just entered the class within the last month several who have been in the school for two or more years

    4. Advanced students are very close to grade level use the grade level objectives. nearly fluent in English speaking, reading, and writing can analyze, create, defend, debate, evaluate, justify, support, and explain.

    5. Beginning ELL students Select objectives little or no proficiency in English Work in pairs with an English speaker Or with an advanced ELL Point, match, draw, select, choose, act out Name, label, group, list, categorize, tell

    6. Intermediate students can understand and speak English in simple sentences define, describe, recall, restate, compare/contrast, and summarize orally and in writing. still reading below grade level.

    8. ELL BEGINNERS CAN Draw and label vocabulary poster: river, desert, mountain, river valley and other terms. Locate and touch on map significant features when given verbal cues: rivers, seas, desert, pyramids, etc. Copy label cards and place in proper position on blank map. Create maps of early civilizations

    9. ELL Intermediates can… Create picture dictionary with simple sentences describing and using the terms. Recall important place names, locate on map and use in a simple sentence, written or oral. Create maps of early civilizations

    10. TN Social Studies Standards: DATES & TIMELINES 6.5.spi.6. Recognize the designations for time dating (i.e., BCE, AD, centuries, prehistoric, historic) 6.5. spi.7. Recognize major historical time periods (i.e., early civilizations) 6.5.tpi.3. Study examples of primary and secondary sources about the same event. 6.5.tpi.4. Create a timeline with various images depicting historical events

Make and sample foods from a cultural region. 6.6.tpi.8. Analyze a society in history to compare it to its status today.
