  1. Welcome to the Lake Land Church of Christ We at the Lake Land Church of Christ are a non-denominational, independent congregation of the Lord’s people. We try our best to follow the New Testament design of governance and worship, which means we are an autonomous group whose allegiance lies with no one or any organization but Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Who is King of kings and Lord of Lords. We belong to Him because we are clothed in Him at baptism (Galatians 3:27) and it is through His blood that the church was purchased (Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 1:19), and the church is His alone (Matthew 16:18). We believe that in His infinite wisdom He has left the local congregation to be overseen by elders to watch over and guard the spiritual needs of the flock (1 Peter 5:1-2); deacons to assist the elders in seeing that its members are provided for (Acts 6; 1 Timothy 3); teachers to help the congregation grow spiritually and in wisdom (1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 4:11) and a minister or evangelist to proclaim God’s word in season and out of season (Ephesians 4:11; 2 Timothy 4:2). If you are looking for a congregation that has no creed but only seeks to follow God’s word as it is written, but acknowledges our own human foibles and weaknesses, then you need look no further! We want you to be a part of our congregation! 2. From the Preacher’s Desk Thoughts for the Day: “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -- Mark Twain This week’s Mark Twain quote has a strong Biblical correlation for it is very closely related to what Jesus said in Luke 6:26 [NAS]: “Woe to you when all men men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.” It is hard to stand up and do the right thing when all the world seemingly is going in the other direction. That is why Satan has made peer pressure such an art form in his arsenal against mankind, particularly among the youth, and why Jesus gave such a strong warning against seeking the praise of men. More often than not the praise of men means one has strayed from the narrow path that leads to life (Matthew 7:14). In fact, if we are not being ridiculed by those of the world around us for our beliefs then we are being a poor servant and witness for our Lord. Jesus also said while giving what are commonly called the Beatitudes during His magnificent delivery of His Sermon on the Mount, 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in Heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12 [NAS]) Following the glorious resurrection and ascension of Jesus into Heaven, His Apostles became emboldened in their faith in the Lord. They experienced first-hand what it meant to be persecuted in the name of Jesus. In fact, we are told following the flogging of Peter and John at the hands of the Sanhedrin in Acts 5 that these two disciples “…went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name” (Acts 5:41 [NAS]). The Apostle Paul also suffered beatings at the hands of persecutors for His belief in Jesus. Paul writes, 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep (2 Corinthians 11:24-25 [NAS]). But Paul concludes this matter by stating in Galatians 6:14 [NAS], “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” ************************************************************ God grades on the Cross, not the curve. ************************************************************ Wake up, Rick!
