  2. Definition • The process of testing individuals to determine whether they have the gene(s) associated with certain genetic disorders.

  3. Problems Addressed • Disorders can be prevented or treated early on before it worsens • New born Screening is used to detect mutations early on in life • Find and identify disorders as soon as possible

  4. Societal Concerns • Family Issues (anger about disease) • The right not to know • Other mutations can occur from changing your genetic code • Miscarriages caused through doctors taking amniotic fluid • Emotional and Financial concerns

  5. Facts • Detect Genotypes, mutations, phenotypes, karyotypes • Treat hypothyroidism
