  2. Early Literacy Focus: Background Knowledge Children must have a lot of background knowledge to understand what they read. Gaining this knowledge begins from birth. They learn how different items feel, what happens if an object falls, etc. When they start to read, having this kind of knowledge helps their comprehension.

  4. Mr. Bullfrog Fingerplay Here’s Mister Bullfrog (make a fist) Sitting on a rock (put fist on flat palm) Into the water he jumps (jump fist up) Kerplop! (clap once loudly)

  5. Frog Song (Farmer in the Dell)The frog lives in the pond,His tongue is oh so long.It reaches high to catch a flyAnd then he sings this song. Ribbit, ribbit, ribbitRibbit, ribbit, ribbitHigh, ho just watch him goHis tongue is oh so long!

  6. Little Green Frog (pretend to be a frog) Here’s Mister Bullfrog (make a fist) Sitting on a rock (put fist on flat palm) Into the water he jumps (jump fist up) Kerplop! (clap once loudly)

  7. Frog on a Log Felt Board There once was a green little frog, frog, frog, Who sat in the woods on a log, log, log. A screech owl sitting in a tree, tree, tree, Came after the frog with a scree, scree, scree. When the frog heard the owl in a flash, flash, flash, He jumped in the pond with a splash, splash, splash!
