  1. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms Presented By IMS and Library Systems

  2. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms Thomas L. Kemp Integrated Systems Manager, IVDL Cleveland State University 216-687-5206 t.l.kemp@csuohio.edu

  3. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms IMS Support: • IMS Services currently supports 80+ Technology Enhanced Classrooms. • Several more planned for 2006/ 07. • The majority of these rooms are “General Purpose Teaching Classrooms.” • Almost all rooms have a projector and screen; some rooms are also equipped with a VHS Player, DVD, amp and speakers, document camera, internet connectivity, wireless or both. • By having most of the equipment that the faculty uses on a regular basis in a classroom on campus, instructors are able to use the technology to enhance their subject matter.

  4. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms The Problem: • Classrooms do not have the same technology. • Much of the existing classroom technology is 10+ years old and outdated. • Much of the existing technology is broken and/or was never installed properly. • Because there are no standards for classroom technology on the Campus, It is impossible to fix problems promptly, because of the the number of different components varies from classroom to classroom.

  5. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms The Solution: • Build inexpensive classrooms that have the same technology. (Classroom Technology Standard) • Give every room the ability to communicate immediately with a IMS Service Desk in case of equipment failure. • Offer options for rooms with special needs that can be maintained.

  6. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms • The new standard TEC model will include: • DVD / VHS Combo • RCA Video and Audio Input • Laptop VGA and Audio Input • Network Connectivity • Amplifier and speakers • Equipment Security Camera • Automated Networked Service Desk Assistance • Service Desk Intercom • High Powered Projector (3000 Lumens) • Permanent Projector Screen (powered or pull-down) • Base Room Technology can be installed for less than $12,000.00

  7. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms The base CSU TEC Classroom would look something like this.

  8. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms Options for a CSU TEC Classroom could include: • Video Camera • Smart Board or Smart Sympodium • Classroom Computer • Standard or High Definition Document Camera • Theater Sound • Duel Projectors • Spectrum Podium • Wireless Microphone • Standard or High Definition Microscope • Basic Video Conferencing Abilities • MediaSite composite and VGA Inputs • Additional VGA, S-Video or Composite Inputs

  9. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms Options for a CSU TEC Classroom could would look like this: (This TEC system has six inputs and with a podium can be installed for less than $16K.)

  10. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms • Options for a CSU TEC Continued: This Technology set up costs approximately $14,000.00 Smart Board Sympodium added to this Technology Enhanced Classroom All new classrooms would be supported by the IMS Service Desk and Head End Facility for no additional cost.

  11. IMS Support Desk and Head End FacilityThis new state of the art Technology Facility was built to both manage the synchronous distance learning technology along with the TEC classrooms. This facility will be able to assist professors, instructors and staff immediately with any technology breakdowns that might occur while teaching in a classroom on the campus. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms

  12. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms • By standardizing the Technology Enhanced Classrooms at Cleveland State University: • Our Classrooms will all operate the same no matter what building you teach in. • We can offer the necessary immediate support our faculty deserve. • We can market ourselves to the student population as more of a technological university. • We will be able to fix technology problems that come up immediately, rather than wait weeks sometimes months for spare parts.

  13. Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms Any questions or ideas? Bruce Jeppesen – 216-687-2364 Tom Kemp – 216-687-5206
