Don’t Get Wasted

  • Each student will have a paper with an item on it paper clipped to their back

  • Walk around the room, asking other students “Yes” or “No” questions about your item until you figure out what it is

  • Then, stand near the sign for what action should be taken for this item – there may be more than one correct choice

    • Reduce

    • Reuse

    • Recycle

    • Compost

    • Trash

  • Create a poster to encourage students and families to recycle

  • Printer paper, markers, colored pencils, and crayons are available if needed

  • Include recycling facts from the handout to help convince people

  • Your poster should be creative, but serve a purpose

  • Return the recycling facts handout when finished

  • Write a letter as if you are someone living in the future.

  • You are writing to thank 6th graders in the year 2011 for reducing their use of natural resources

  • Include specific actions that the students from the “past” did and how it affected the world in the future

  • Your letter should be at least ½ a page long
