  1. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/multimedia/health-750b/ What the U.S. Could Buy With Wasted Health Care Money

  2. $ 750 billion wasted in 2009 • Unnecessary services • Inefficiently delivered care • Excess administrative cost • Inflated prices • Missed prevention opportunities • Fraud

  3. $ 750 billion in 2009 …is 30 cents of every dollar spent on health care in the U.S.

  4. If Banking behaved like this…. ATM transactions would take not seconds but perhaps days or longer as a result of unavailable or misplaced records.

  5. If Construction behaved like this…. Carpenters, electricians and plumbers each would work with different blueprints, with very little coordination.

  6. If Shopping behaved like this…. Product prices would not be posted, and the price charged would vary widely within the same store, depending on the source of payment.

  7. If auto manufacturing behaved like this…. Warranties for cars that require manufacturers to pay for defects would not exist. As a result, few factories would seek to monitor and improve production line performance and product quality.

  8. If airline travel behaved like this…. Each pilot would be free to design his or her own pre-flight safety check, or not to perform one at all.

  9. That’s enough to…. Cover the 2012 salaries for all of Major League Baseball 261 times over

  10. That’s enough to…. Buy out all of the ad spots from Super Bowl XLVI 3,061 times over More than 74 days of ads

  11. That’s enough to…. Pay for the London Olympic Games 52 times over

  12. That’s enough to…. Cover all hospital and medical care for veterans for the past 51 years

  13. That’s enough to…. Pay for all U.S. economic aid to foreign countries from 1974 to 2010 --and still have more than $14 billion left over

  14. That’s enough to…. Fund the budget of the Defense Department for one year

  15. That’s enough to…. Cover all health care costs of uninsured Americans in 2008 more than 6 times overs

  16. That’s enough to…. Send every 17 and 18 year-old in the U.S. to a state university for four years including room and board
