Over 80 papers from SOFE-25 received • TPS Special Issue Guest Editors: • Irvin Zatz, PPPL (Lead) • Stephan Bosch, IPP-Greifswald • Bill Cary, General Atomics • Dennis Youchison, Sandia National Lab • Irv Zatz stated that papers have reviews completed and proceeding to press. He expects the special issue will be a March 2014 TPS publication

Highlights of progress on SOFE 26 • The 26th Symposium on Fusion Engineering will be co-located with the PPC (Pulsed Power Conference) and held in Austin, Texas between May 31 and June 4, 2015 • SOFE-26 General chair: Jean Paul Allain and Technical Program chair: Mark Tillack, UC San Diego • PPC General chair is Mark Crawford and Technical Program Chair: David Wetz, UT-Arlington • MOU signed between Fusion Technology Committee and Pulsed Power Science and Technology Committee • Discussions are underway with Sherry Russ Sills to finalize contract with IEEE-MCE services • Organizing committee being finalized including members from both FTC and PPTC communities • SOFE-26 Technical Program Committee being finalized • Conference logo and advertising material planned ready for distribution at upcoming summer meetings

Summary of Recent Committee Activities • 2014 Fusion Technology Award Nominations were received February 15, 2014 • Five total nominations received • Currently under review by FTC for voting and announcement of winner during March teleconference meeting • Allain and Tillack engaging with Chinese Fusion Institutes • Purpose: To sustain the increasing levels of participation of Chinese fusion engineers in SOFE given the increased activities in tokamak devices there • Actions: FTC to invite Dr. XuruDuan, Director from the Center for Fusion Science at the Southwestern Institute of Physics in Chengdu, China to join FTC. • Plans for additional invitations to the FTC from India, the Latin American region and an additional member from Europe

  5. Summary of Recent Committee Activities • Update on outreach to students and members in academia • Purdue University students working to establish IEEE-NPSS chapter • University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: Dept. of Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering includes many research areas represented in the NPSS and now have about 10 students interested in establishing chapters • Allain working to assemble a local organizing committee with contacts at University of Texas Austin to encourage participation in SOFE-26 including faculty and students in various areas of engineering with focus on fusion technology
