  1. VICTORY THE REWARD OF THE CONQUERER A study of Revelation

  2. “Authority over all the Nations…” • Thyatira was the least known and least important church mentioned • The city was home of various trade guilds • The guilds were closely tied to pagan idolatry

  3. “Authority over all the Nations…” • Jesus is here portrayed as having eyes like fire and feet like burnished bronze • An intense penetrating gaze which sees the true nature of its object • Purity and strength; the power to trod over the enemy

  4. “Authority over all the Nations…” • “Jezebel” is most likely figurative, representing an influential woman in the church • Jezebel stands distinct from Balaam in her more direct approach • This woman was likely teaching that idols are nothing and so pagan feast were an acceptable compromise

  5. “Authority over all the Nations…” • The “reward” figures are taken from Psalm 2 • The Psalm describes the futility of the kings of earth in standing against the purpose of God • The Psalm serves as an assurance of God’s victory • Through our King we rule victorious!

  6. “Authority over all the Nations…” • The Morning Star is a figure of hope, peace and security • Even in the darkest night we can hope in the morning star • The world which persecutes us places faith in a waning god while we have faith in the one who has yet to even demonstrate His full power

  7. “Clothed in white garments” • Sardis was the seat of commerce • The home of modern money • Known for the love of luxury and pleasure • Sardis was very confident in its own security

  8. “Clothed in white garments” • This church had a good reputation but bad character • There is no mention of persecution here • Perhaps the greater danger is a life of ease

  9. “Clothed in white garments” • Wake up – be vigilant, recognize the situation • Remember –why did you come to Christ?

  10. “Clothed in white garments” • White garments – purity and full advantage in the sacrifice of the lamb • The book of remembrance is a figure intended to instill confidence in the faithful • To confess our name indicates son-ship and inclusion
