  15. Cadbury’s Advert • Watch the first half of the advert. What do you think the gorilla is going to do? • This advert was extremely popular in western countries. Why do you think people liked it?

  16. Guerrilla Advertising • What do you think the phrase “Guerrilla Advertising” means? • Look at the pictures and say what the difference is between guerrilla advertising and normal advertising.

  18. TV Commercials and Adverts • What TV commercials do you like? • Why do you like it? • Which ones do you hate? • What's your favourite commercial? • What is the purpose of advertising a product? • Do you think there are subliminal messages?

Advert Messages • Samples of the "We're Different and Unique" Claim • "There's no other mascara like it.“ • So What" Claim • "Campbell's gives you tasty pieces of chicken and not one but two chicken stocks." Does the presence of two stocks improve the taste? • "Compliment the Consumer" Claim • "We think a cigar smoker is someone special."

Can you imagine trying to either prove or disprove such a claim? • Endorsements or Testimonials • "Joan Fontaine throws a shot-in-the-dark party and her friends learn a thing or two." • Scientific or Statistical Claims • "Special Morning--33% more nutrition." Also an unfinished claim.

  21. Create an Advert • Choose a product and say one sentence (or more if you like) using the advert message techniques we have just discussed.

  22. Pepsi Commercials • Watch the first Pepsi commercial for a western audience. Describe. - What were the words? - What did the people look like? - What were they doing? - Where were they? • Watch the second commercial and also describe it.

  24. Topics for Discussion • There is a famous English saying that goes "you are what you eat." Does this apply to television? Can the programs you watch affect your behaviour? • Do you think children watch too much TV these days? • Is television one of the best inventions of all times? • Why do you think television industry is so successful?
