The Scientific Revolution

The Scientific Revolution. Events and people. What people thought. 1500. 1750. Luckily by 1750 we have worked out that most of that is tosh. Science is key. The Sun is the centre of the Universe and the best way of finding out about medicine is by dissection.

  1. The Scientific Revolution Events and people

  2. What people thought 1500 1750 Luckily by 1750 we have worked out that most of that is tosh. Science is key. The Sun is the centre of the Universe and the best way of finding out about medicine is by dissection. Everything is God’s will. The Earth is the centre of the Universe. Medicine is controlled by the 4 humours – blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm. What you have to work out though is when we came about these ideas and also who thought of them.

  3. What happened when? 1500 1543 1610 1628 1661 1662 1680s 1686 1698 1717 The Printing Press was introduced to Britain. This makes it easier for scientists to read about the latest scientific discoveries.

  22. What happened when? 1500 1543 1610 1628 1661 1662 1680s 1686 1698 1717 It is discovered that air is essential for breathing and for burning.

  23. How did thinking change? Can you remember how ideas changed between 1500 and 1750? Write an overview of what changed during this time in your exercise books. You have 5 minutes! Don’t forget to put the date and the title ‘The Scientific Revolution’

  24. Create a timeline in your books 1500 1543 1610 1628 1661 1662 1680s 1686 1698 1717 See if you can remember when events happened using the picture prompts. Create a timeline of discovery in your books – write in the event next to each date. Make sure your spacing of events is accurate. You have 15 minutes!

  25. Who discovered what? Thomas Savery Vesalius Isaac Newton William Harvey Charles II Galileo Lady Mary Wortley Robert Boyle Francis Bacon Robert Hook Wrote a book in 1605 called The Advancement of Learning that provided the basis for many ideas.
