Volunteering at the MCAS Miramar Air Show October 1st-3rd

For the 2010 Miramar Air Show, the Single Marine Program signed up to volunteer at a food booth, which consisted of cheeseburgers, hotdogs, chips and beverages. This was also a fundraiser for the SMP. This was unlike any other time that I volunteered at the Air Show because most of the time it’s not usually what I would consider a good time. This was not the case at our booth because the work was easy and we had a good time attracting customers with chants, “Hot Dogs!! Cheeseburgers!! Ice Cold, Bottle Water!!” One of the managers who oversaw the food booths complimented us on our quick and great service. We had one of the busiest booths at the Air Show with everybody assigned a position, we could offer non-stop service during peak hours. It was a great time and I had no problem working all of the shifts. We provided every service member who volunteered a letter of appreciation. Written by Cpl Alexander Lima with MALS-11

SMP Trip to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights

The SMP took a trip to Universal Studios for their annual Halloween Horror Nights. We met up with the Marines from Barstow at the Hard Rock Café to have lunch and catch up with the other Marines, take pictures, and have fun. After we all had lunch, we all got ready to enter where the main event was taking place. We were all excited; we could hear the people that were all ready inside. We could hear the screams, mixed with chainsaws, and ghoulish laughter that would soon be awaiting us. Once we were in the park, we were met with sliding zombies, dancing Krueger wenches, and the dreaded clowns. We all decided to walk through the haunted mazes, which had awesome props; clearly a lot of time and effort was put into making this look remarkably horrifying. We went to a couple mazes, the first being the vampire’s house maze. These were no model-looking, sparkling, weepy vampires you see in these teenage movies nowadays. These vampires seemed real with their ugly, bloody fangs - for a second you actually believed you’re going to be eaten alive. Horror Nights is definitely something I would go to again. I know I had a lot of fun and I’m sure the other Marines did too. I will admit I was freaked out a couple times. The costumes were very well done, and the actors were very good. I can’t wait for the next trip. Written by LCpl Veronica Garcia with MACG-38

Casino/Halloween Bks. Bash

27 Oct 2010

“Being able to help plan and coordinate the Bash made me understand the true depths it takes to put on something like this., therefore I feel that I enjoyed it more because of all the hard work that was put into this great night. Seeing all those Single Marines laughing and having a good time was definitely the highlight of the entire event. Having numerous pie’s thrown in my face was quite the experience as well.”
