  2. VoIP • New technologies have allowed companies like Vonage to offer phone services through a Broadband Internet Connection. New advances with these “Internet Phones” have caused prices to drop for long-distance telephone calls.

  3. Current Providers • Current providers include Skype, SIPphone, i2Telecom, and Dialpad Communications. They offer such features as: • Free PC-to-PC calling • Conference Calls • Voicemail • Reduced long distance telephone costs

  4. Skype • The leading provider introduced its service in early March, as a test phase. Now, it allows a user to setup an account, choose a phone number from any area code or country in the world, and dictate where you want your messages delivered to: either to an account on your PC or through an additional voicemail.

  5. Pricing $$$ • Skype Pricing Options: $12 / 3 Months $38 / 1 Year • Gizmo Project Options: $15 / 3 Months These plans do not include the price per minute. The average rate for each minute varies. Calls within the US are on average about 1.8 cents a minute. Calls outside the US range from 2.1 cents to Brazil, all the way to 15.4 cents to call New Delhi.

  6. Possible Providers • Representatives from AOL, Yahoo!, and Microsoft have all stated that they are developing new computer phone services in their upcoming versions of instant messaging. Even Google has offered a computer-phone service that may be the launch pad for PC-to-phone services.
