  1. Skills and Techniques Test Review

  2. Review of Skills and Techniques test • Mark for part a = • Mark for part b = • Mark for part c = • Mark for part d = • Mark for part e = • Overall mark /20 • Strongest areas are • Weakest areas are • Target area to work on= • Comment on result

  3. Question 5 of 2009 past paper • Describe one method you used to collect data about your whole performance. 4 marks • I played a game of full court singles up to 21 points • I played against an opponent of similar ability • A class mate with a good knowledge of badminton watched only my play • At the same time he/she filled in a Match Analysis sheet • Describe the sheet and draw a diagram of the lay-out including a key • After the game, I could easily see which shots were successful, which were unsuccessful and which shots I rarely used • My main strength is.......because 70% of the marks were ticks and circled ticks • My weakest shot is the Overhead clear as there were many crosses against that shot, in fact more than 50% of the marks were crosses. • This meant I either hit it out, fluffed the shot or it didn’t go far enough up the court and it was an easy target.

  4. Question 5 of 2009 paper (b) Now describe one method you used to collect data about a specific skill in your performance 3marks • I used a movement analysis sheet( PAR sheet) • PAR stands for Preparation, Action, Recovery • The sheet describes the Overhead clear when played by a model performer • The sheet breaks the actions of the skill into 3 components • Give an example of one action at each stage of Preparation, Action and Recovery • I was filmed playing the overhead clear repeatedly when fed shuttles by an accurate feeder/coach/teacher • I was able to complete the sheet with the teacher by comparing my performance to that of a model performer • A tick was marked if I completed the action correctly or a cross if unsuccessful

  5. (b) continued • The sheet easily identified my strengths and weaknesses • For example, I wasn’t turning side on in the preparation phase which would mean I was unable to transfer my weight into the shot. • This would mean my overhead clear was lacking the necessary power. • My strength was that I move from base and track the shuttle well. • The sheet pinpoints exactly the parts of the shot I need to work on in my programme of work.
