  1. Brookhaven Technical Center Polymer Science

  2. What’s in Your Future? If any of these professions interest you, this class is the place for you to get prepared for your future!

  3. What is Polymer Science? Are you interested in what things are made of in your world? How they are made? Why they are what they are? If your answer is YES to any of these questions, this class could be the place for you!

  4. Polymer Science Curriculum • Basic Inorganic, Organic, & Polymer Chemistry • Hands-on Laboratory Experiences • Processing Techniques and Performance Testing for polymers, metals, ceramics, coatings, and composites • 21st Century Employment Skills • Industry Visits and Speakers • 2yr program – 2 lab-based sciences and 2 elective credits

  5. PS Students are Doers Students investigate shear-thickening behavior of natural and synthetic polymer suspensions. When stirred/poked slowly, they behave like liquids, but when stirred/poked quickly they behave like a solids.

  6. PS Students are Makers Students various technologies to mold and form polymeric, ceramic, and composite pieces. We also use CAD software to design and 3-D print parts.

  7. PS Students are Investigators Students investigate the size of an atom and the light different atoms emit when excited through chemical reactions, data collection, and calculations. • They discover the explosive nature of hydrogen gas!

  8. PS Students are Evaluators Students evaluate properties and changes of materials through high-tech testing techniques, experimentation, and analytical thinking.

  9. PS Students are Explorers Students explore real-life applications of materials through tours and guest speakers

  10. Change Your Worldview… “This class opened my eyes to a world that I never even knew existed.” “Before Polymer Science, I never really thought of how complex many everyday items are to make.” “Polymer Science has taught me things that I have never even thought of before. It is the most in-depth I have ever gone in science.” Enroll in Polymer Science!
