  1. Introduction of ITER Port plug and Diagnostics Integration 17 April 2015Damao Yao

  2. ITER Diagnostics • Although its scale and expected performance is close to that required for a commercial reactor, ITER must be considered as an experiment and as such has uncertainties in many aspects of its plasma physics performance. • Consequently, a major goal of the ITER Project is to improve the understanding of reactor-grade tokamak plasmas and their effect on the machine hardware • To accomplish this mission, the Project from the start has devoted significant effort in designing and facilitating diagnostic access and compatibility with the fusion plasma. • In total, approximately 50 different diagnostic systems are in preparation to accomplish this. • These are meant to not only understand the performance of the ITER plasma, but to also optimize and to control it.

  18. Summary • Reactor-grade tokamak plasma physics performance study is necessary • Diagnostics integrated in port plug is convenient for maintenance • Radiation shielding should be considered for device and diagnostic components protection • Labyrinth structure is required for improve nuclear shielding • Nuclear heating will deposit on diagnostic components
