  1. Enrichment Activities

  2. Describe the Picture • Divide students into partners • One partner describes a picture to the other partner as best they can • The one who was listening is then asked to draw what was described to them • When done, both share their pictures and discuss how the description could have been better • Examples for use: FFA emblem, animal breeds, plant ID

  3. Give One, Get One • Have students divide a sheet of paper into two columns • One column says “Give One” the other says “Get One” • In teams, students brainstorm “Give ones” • When a team finishes filling the “Give one” column they all stand • When all students are standing, each student puts a hand up, and pairs with someone who is not a teammate • Students in pairs give an idea, then “Get one” from their partner and write in the “get one” column • Students continue to rotate partners until they have filled up their “Get one” column • They return to their teams to review the “Get ones” • Great for reviewing

  4. Fan-n-Pick • Played with premade question cards • Teams with students numbered 1-4 • #1 fans the cards, #2 picks, #3 answers, #4 praises • Students then rotate roles

  5. Mix-n-match • Make cards with one set that contains vocabulary words and another set with the definitions • Pass out to students randomly • Students mix, then find find partners with the matching card • Can also be used with plant or animal ID • Example: Set of cards with the name of the plant and another set with pictures of the plants • Students mix and find their partner

  6. Jigsaw Problem Solving • Each teammate has part of an answer • Teammates must put together their answers to solve the problem

  7. Find the Fib • Everyone writes 3 statements • 2 true/1 false • #1 stands, reads statements • Teammates discuss, write answer, reach consensus • If their answer is correct, the person quizzing claps • If their incorrect, the student quizzing corrects them and explains • Students rotate

  8. Corners • Teacher announces what the corners mean • Students think, write choices • Students go to corner • Students must justify as a group why they chose that corner • Each corner has a spokesperson that can report to the class why they chose that corner

  9. Brainstorm • Students are numbered 1-4 in groups • Teacher gives problem • Individual think time is given • Teacher calls “brainstorm”. Students then come up with a group answer. • Teacher calls a random number to answer

  10. Pair Work • Student 1 works while student 2 watches • Student 2 coaches Student 1 • Students switch • Then the pair shares with another pair at their table and compare and discuss answers

  11. Showdown • #1 Flips over card with problem/question and read it out loud • All answer on scratch paper • When all are done answering they put their pens/pencils down • #1 then calls out “Showdown” and students hold up their answers to compare • #1 leads in praise/help • Pass deck to #2 and repeat

  12. Team Interview • Student #1 stands • Team asks questions • Student answers • Rotate

  13. Color Coded Coop Cards • Give pretest over material to be memorized after instruction • Learners create flash cards on missed items. Each teammate uses a different color card • Play Flashcard Game in pairs with 5 cards at a time. Play 3 rounds. Switch roles after each round. • Round 1-give maximum clues • Round 2-Fewer clues • Round 3-No clues • Give practice test • Do initial improvement scoring • Play Flashcard Game on missed items • Give final test

  14. Apple Toss • Apple Pass: Have all Ss sit in a circle.  Use a fake apple and toss it to one S.  But you must say one English word as you pass.  The S then throws to another S and says a different English word.  If the student you threw it to drops it, he/she is out.  And the game keeps going until you have one winner.  It can be played with different categories, such as Food, Animals, Etc.

  15. Badminton • Badminton: Good for reviewing target vocabulary (words or communicative expressions). Set a "court" into the classroom by placing a skip-rope tied up to two chairs. Make two small teams (the other Ss can be the crowd and or challengers). Give each S a flyswatter ("Racket"). Inflate a balloon (this will be the ball). Remember: the younger the Ss, the bigger the balloon must be (slower).  Decides who serves and for every point one team scores, have the opposite team call out the flashcard or picture card by the T shown.

  16. Explosion • Give the students a topic and an object to pass around.  Each student has to say a word in that topic (e.g. food - apple, cake etc.) before the time runs out. If the time limit ends the student left holding the object loses.

  17. Hangman • The old favorite.  Very good for reviewing vocab from past lessons.

  18. Shirt Game • Divide the children into two teams and give a man's shirt to each team.  Be sure each shirt has the same amount of buttons down the front.  At the signal, the first person on each team puts on the shirt and buttons all of the buttons down the front.  The one who is buttoned-up first gets to answer the question you ask.  Of course a question equals points.  If the answer is incorrect, the person from the other team gets a chance to answer.

  19. Time Bomb • you need a timer (such as an egg timer) for this exciting game.  Set the timer, ask a question and then throw it to a S.  S/he must answer and then throw the timer to another S, who in turn answers and then throws it to another S.  The S holding the timer when it goes off loses a life.  This can also be done with categories (e.g. food, animals, etc.)

  20. Tornado • Supplies: flashcards (pictures or questions on one side, numbers on the other), 'Tornado Cards' (flashcards with numbers on one side and a tornado picture on the other).  Stick the numbered cards on the board with either pictures or questions on the back (depending on the age group) facing the board. Also include 6 Tornado cards and mix them in with the picture cards. Students then choose a number card. If they answer the question correctly then their team can draw a line to draw a house. If they choose a tornado card then they blow down their opposing teams part drawing of a house. The first team to draw a house wins.
