  2. The Trip What? Year 8 English trip – War Poetry Where? Ypres, Belgium When? Wednesday 12th December – Friday 14th December 2017 Why? War Poetry Unit Who? Miss Quinn, Mr Snowdon, Miss Lancaster, Mr Kirk, Mrs Robson and 36 pupils

  5. Travelling Down • Meet 10:30pm Tuesday at school (with all belongings) • Give any medication/money to group leader (money in envelopes, medication in bag with instructions) • 11pm – Depart school • Stop at services on the way (only for toilet stop). Breakfast to be eaten on the coach • 7:20am - board Eurotunnel • 8:55am (local time) – Arrive in Calais and drive to Belgium

  6. Day 1: Wednesday 10:30am – Arrive in Ypres. Passchendale, Ypres cathedral, Christmas market and ice skating 4pm - Anticipated arrival at hotel, evening meal, relaxation time (or bed!)

  8. Day 2: Thursday 8am – Breakfast 9:45am – Menin Gate 10am – Flanders Field Museum 11am – Meet tour guide and visit Essex Farm Cemetery, Langemark, Tyne Cot, Hill 60, Belgium market (aka chocolate heaven) 5:30pm – evening meal at hotel

  9. Day 2: Thursday 6:30pm– Depart hotel back to main square 8pm – Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate. Return to hotel for some creative poetry writing and hot chocolate.

  10. Day 3: Friday 7:30am – Breakfast/pack 10am – Visit to Wellington Quarry 11:30am – Depart and visit Newfoundland Park 1:20pm – Depart and head to port 4:50pm – Depart Calais 11:45pm – Anticipated arrival at school (website/Facebook will be updated)

  12. Packing • Warm clothes for 3 full days (layers as it will be cold!) Hats, gloves, scarf • 2 pairs of shoes (indoor and outdoor) • Towel and toiletries • Breakfast/lunch/snacks for Wednesday or bring money to buy these. Nothing with nuts in! • Pen/pencil/notepad (for writing) • iPod (no connection to internet) • Camera • Book/puzzle book/games console/DVDs (for bus) • Spending money for market (50 euros max in envelope), 4 euros for ice skating and British money for services there and back) • Medication (to be given to group leader) • No mobile phones or iPads, flip flops, suitcases the sizes of houses

  13. Before You Leave… • Read and sign the behaviour contract (parent and pupil) • Sign the ice skating consent form • Sign the paracetamol form • Hand in passport/EHIC card if not already • Check dietary requirements and medical info • Photography • Ask any questions
