  1. Beam Pipe and Service Support Structure Production Progress February, 2004 E. Anderssen, LBNL

  2. Progress and Recent Changes • Progress of productuion is reported in later slides • Changes to BPSS are largely changes to Service Panels and Patch Panel 1 designs • Part of what was PP1 is now integrated with BPSS • Simplifies assembly of services into/onto pixel package • Allows for immediate (temporary) support of Beam Pipe upon BPSS installation • Prior design required temporary support of the Beam Pipe by the ITT until two service panels were installed—current change allows for support prior to service installation E. Anderssen LBNL

  3. Primary Change—addition of PP1 Cruciform Temporary Support Cans • Removed BPSS interface from PP1 Quarter Panel • Allows complete side access for penetration flex • Allows independent support of Beam pipe Bellows (does not require PP1 panel to support bellows) NEW OLD E. Anderssen LBNL

  4. BPSS Cruciform Production Update • Cruciform Assemblies are ready to assemble—all* parts in hand • Start bonded assembly mid march (shuffled schedule due to vacation) • *Need to re-fabricate one panel—see later slide, can start on rest in meantime E. Anderssen LBNL

  5. Tooling • Cruciform Tooling is being assembled this week (3rd week Feb 04) E. Anderssen LBNL

  6. Cruciform Inserts • All Inserts and spares for entire production of Cruciforms are in hand • Dry assembly of parts in tool needed to verify tooling—4th week Feb 04 E. Anderssen LBNL

  7. Cruciform Composite parts • *All but one cruciform plate is trimmed • Honeycomb core being trimmed today (18-Feb) • One plate* norched by waterjet—needs to be re-fabricated and trimmed Norch! E. Anderssen LBNL

  8. Beam pipe Adjustor • All Parts in hand—two test assembled to verify machined tolerance • All hardware in hand, need to fabricate flex sense circuit (green in dwg) • Red Anodized band on ‘spring’ adjustor for external identification E. Anderssen LBNL

  9. Longeron Fabrication • Parts Not Started yet • Section of tool complete, can be used for strut Longerons (short tubes at PP1) • More sections will be made after tools verified with first article E. Anderssen LBNL

  10. Progress and Schedule • Adjustor Fabrication Complete • Cruciform Tooling Complete ready for assembly • Cruciform parts Complete ready for bonded assembly • Cruciforms produced by mid April • 6 cruciforms required, 1.5/week start mid March • Longeron Tube Tool short section Complete • First Article (strut longeron) available Mid March • Longeron tubes produced by end of April • 10 tubes required, 1 per week with load balanced labor • Longeron bonded assembly—1/day • Longeron production finished by end of May • First assembly of BPSS w/out PP1 cruciform expected June 04 E. Anderssen LBNL
