  3. 2D nonlinear numerical parametric studies(This may also be what the first centrifuge test looks like.) Need to define suite of ground motions. Some may be artificial (e.g., tapered sine, wavelet), some realistic. Manny and Weian will begin parametric studies on this system. One student will focus on parametric studies of the geometry and properties of the system highlighted in sketch, and the other will focus on effect of the shape of the lower level hysteresis curve (recentering, flag, elasto-plastic, settlement?). Open issues and thoughts generated during recent discussions • Core set of motions needs to be selected • Artificial • Realistic • Incremental dynamic analysis • How to look at results. • Spectral plots – response parameter on y axis, f1 on horizontal axis, contours of other parameters (k1e/k2e, Fy1/Fy2,…. At least 6 other variables?
