  1. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist • SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES You can use the following checklist to help you plan your studying for the ‘Structures and Strategies’ area of the course. If you are unsure of anything you must ask your teacher to go over it again so that you are fully prepared for the exam. ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION

  2. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist What makes a skilled Performance? Model performers consistently produce a skilled performance. A skilled performance is to carry out linked movements with maximum efficiency. A skilled performance shows these three characteristics: - skills are carried out with fluency, control and with a minimum of effort - correct options are selected - skills are used which reflect the performer’s ability Ensure that you can relate the above characteristics to your performances in badminton before your programme of practices andafter. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Classification of Skills Skills can be separated in to the following categories: Open or ClosedSimple or Complex Discreet,Serial or Continuous Closed skills are predictable in nature such as the forward roll in gymnastics as they are not affected by any outside factors or distractions Open skills such as the Overhead Clear are unpredictable due to outside factors such as the flight/direction of the approaching shuttle and the position of your opponent ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES

Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Classification of Skills cont’d Simple skills require little decision-making and basic movement patterns, such as a forward roll Complex skills require more decision-making, coordination of all the sub-routines and more accuracy to perform, such as an OHC Discreet skills have a clear beginning and end. An example is the OHC, as you start and finish the skill at base. Serial skills are made up of many actions put together such as a high jump: run up, approach to bar, take off, hip extension, landing. Continuous skills are characterized by their ongoing nature and for having repetitive patterns, such as cycling or running. ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES

Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Analyse the Data to Identify Strengths and weaknesses (No Specialised Roles) • Ensure you can discuss your performance strengthsand weaknesses when playing ‘No Specialised Roles’. • Always structure your answer to include the effect on: • ME – the effect on you as an individual in your role as a spiker or setter • TEAM – the effect this has on how you perform as a team • OPPOSITION – the effect on the opposition ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES

Develop a Plan of Action Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist • You may be asked to explain: • a plan/course of action • how you adapted your structure/strategy • how you made improvements to it • what your future development needs would be • what your next steps would be to develop your strategy • These are ALL ways of asking you to explain the change you made to • Specialised Roles - Switch on Serve • and/or • Specialised Roles - Switch on Serve Receive. • Ensure you can describe in detail • Specialised Roles - Switch on • and illustrate by using clear diagrams. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Develop a Plan of Action (cont’d) You must be able to justify why you chose this strategy therefore ensure you can discuss fully the strengths/advantages of it. Again use the format ME, TEAM, OPPOSITION to include as much detail as possible and to elaborate your answer. ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES

Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Performance Elements/Factors to consider • Ensure you can explain in detail what is meant by the following: • Being Creative • Tactics • Formations – Width, Depth and Mobility • Roles and Responsibilities • Speed/Tempo of Play • Making Effective Decisions Under Pressure • Use of Space – attacking/denying • You must be able to relate the above elements/factors to your team’s performance ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES

Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Monitoring Performance • How and when did you monitor your performance? • After you made the change to Specialised Roles – Switch on ……. • Repeat the data collection process you used for No Specialised Roles under identical competitive game conditions • Compare the data to the results from No Specialised Roles, have improvements been made? • This information will allow adjustments to be made to the structure/strategy.   10. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Monitoring Performance Cont’d • You will have set short and long term targets when you made the change at first. Monitoring and re-evaluating will tell you if targets have been met. • If targets are met, if improvements have been made to performance this will motivate you to keep working hard ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES

Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist Evaluating Performance • How did you evaluate the effectiveness of your new structure/strategy – Specialised Roles – Switch on Serve/Serve Receive? • Repeat the data collection process under identical conditions • Compare the data to the information collected on No Specialised Roles • Explain the effect your new strategy has had on your performance. Same answer as Strengths from above. (Answer using ME TEAM OPPOSITION) ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES

  12. Higher/Intermediate 2 Revision Checklist REMEMBER! THE EXAMINER MAY NOT KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT VOLLEYBALL AND WILL CERTAINLY NOT KNOW THE DETAILS OF OUR STRATEGIES. YOU MUST EXPLAIN EVERYTHING VERY CLEARLY AND IN A LOT OF DETAIL. ROSSHALL ACADEMY: PHYSICAL EDUCATION STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIES
