  3. Class Rule # 1 Be prompt and prepared to learn.

  4. Items to Consider… • Locker usage • Restroom usage • What is “on time”? • What materials do I need? • Did I bring my assignments? • Am I focused and on task?

  5. Locker and Restroom Usage • Use BEFORE class! • Unexcused tardy unless you see Ms. Glatt first! • 2 emergency restroom passes per nine weeks • Clinic for emergencies only • I have emergency supplies in my desk

  6. Planner Usage • NO planner; NO passes!! • You must use YOUR own planner. • Keep your pass page IN your planner. • Do not fold/tear out planner pages. • NO passes the first or last ten minutes of class!

  7. Do I have my materials? • Planner • Class notebook/assignments • Folder • Pencils/pens • Loose leaf paper • Glue/scissors/ruler/crayons • Book to read Note: Materials needed posted on board outside door

  8. What is “on time”? On time is in the classroom and in your seat before the bell rings.

  9. Tardy Policy 1st: warning/conduct cut 2nd: letter home/conduct cut 3rd: phone call home/conduct cut 4th: Team intervention/conduct cut 5th: Guidance referral/conduct cut 6th: AP referral/conduct cut Note: Sign in on clip board.

  10. Steps to Entering the Classroom

  11. Step One: Enter the room calmly, maturely, promptly and prepared.

  12. Step Two: Copy daily planner notes into your student planner.

  13. Step Three: Complete your bellwork. (posted on overhead screen)

  14. Step Four: Wait quietly for instruction to begin.

  15. Class Rule # 2 Communicate appropriately with adults and peers.

  16. Inappropriate Behavior: • Using profanity/obscenity (verbally and nonverbally) • Engaging in abuse/harassment • Cheating • Running/horseplay • Disrespect • Talking out of turn • Out of seat without permission

  17. Appropriate Behavior: • Being polite • Helping others • Exercising patience • Using “please,” “thank you,” “excuse me,” and “may I.”

  18. Class Rule # 3 Respect school and personal property.

  19. Respect for Property • Leave all gum at home. • Avoid destroying, defacing or misusing property. • Leave others’ belongings alone. • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

  23. What Supplies Do I need? • General Team Supplies • 4 one-subject notebooks • Folder • Highlighters

  24. Using Pen/Pencils… You may use pencils (have your own sharpener) or black and blue pens. Note: All work not completed in pencils, blue, or black pens will not be accepted and will be returned to the student to be rewritten!

  26. Absence Policy • You are responsible for gathering your work. • You have 2 days to complete the work. • See Ms. Glatt if you missed a quiz.

  27. What if I need extra help? See Ms. Glatt to schedule extra help before school, during homeroom, or after school. Note: Extra help must be arranged in advance!

  28. Finished Early? • Read a book. • Do an extension activity. • Organize/Decorate your notebook. • Help a classmate. • Do brain teasers/word puzzles. • Work on other assignments. Our time is valuable; use it WISELY!

  30. What is “class work”? • Class Notebooks • Assignments completed in class Worth 40% of your over all grade

  31. What falls into the “quizzes” category? • Unit Quizzes • Literature Quizzes • Planner Quizzes Worth 25% of your over all grade

  32. What is our Homework? 1. Read a book of your choice: Monday/Wednesday 20 min. Tuesday/Thursday 30 min. 2. Keep a log in your planner. Record your reading Get it signed on Thursday Ms. Glatt will check it on Fridays 3. Complete a KBAR activity: Assigned: Monday/Wednesday Due: Tuesday/Thursday Worth 20% of your over all grade

  33. What counts as a “project” or “presentation”? • Individual/group presentations • Individual/group projects • Based on units of study (80% in class /100% at home) Worth 15% of your over all grade

  35. Late Work Procedures • Any assignments not turned in during the one day grace period will receive a zero! • All late assignments must be complete! • If it’s in your locker bring it during passing.

  36. Discipline Plan* • Verbal warning • Conduct cuts • Conference with student/send out • Parent contact • Guidance Referral • AP Referral *Depending on the severity of the offense steps may be skipped to ensure proper discipline.

  37. Class Rewards • Satisfaction of a job well done • Praise • Tickets/Friday drawings • Castle Cash/Friday drawings • Treats • Positive note or call home

  38. Class Dismissal • Put away all supplies. • Collect Assignments • Clean your area. • Throw trash away as you leave. The TEACHER dismisses the students, not the bell!
