  2. Thisisourreality… One out of three Honduran families do not own a house, not even land to build their house. Housing deficit is about 1,150,000 houses, increasing in 30k each year. In Honduras, 63.5% of the population lives in extreme poverty.

ImportantFacts • Honduras is one of the countries with more land available for agriculture but unfortunately this land is owned by a few. • One of the big barriers we encounter every time we start new community is the land availability, both in rural and urban areas. • A family has to work for years to afford a plot of land and it takes even more time before they can start a construction. • In rural and in urban areas, some families live with grandparents and cousins. In one single house you can find up to 10 people or more. • A large percentage of the population, are single moms. • In rural areas, they live from growing crops and some raise cattle(Subsistence economy)to start the construction.

  5. OurStory Habitat for Humanity Honduras was founded in 1989 in Santa Cruz de Yojoa, located in the province of Cortés. After 4 years of working in Santa Cruz and with the high substandard housing across the country, Habitat established their headquarters in San Pedro Sula. Habitat went on to create 7 affiliate offices throughout the country that still exist today; San Pedro Sula, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, La Ceiba, Tegucigalpa, Siguatepeque, El Aguan y Copan.

Habitat in Honduras Ourmission Habitat for Humanity Honduras is a non profit organization founded in 1989 that works with families in need, building decent houses and offering all Honduran people the opportunity to put their faith into action We have helped over 8,000 families to have a decent place to live. Over 35,000 people have been benefited by the program in the last 20 years.

  7. Thewaywework… • Habitat builds simple houses along with families, local and international volunteers. As well as house renovations. • * Houses are sold to families, financed through long term mortgages without interest and making no profit. • * Monthly payments are put into the “Seed Fund”, which is used to build more houses in each community. • We offer to Honduran families: • Complete houses. • House Renovations ($1500 fund) • Plot of land and house (in special projects) • Fund to facilitate land titles to families.

  8. Workingwiththefamilies Habitat does not give away houses. In addition to the monthly payments, families work hundreds of hours in volunteer labor on their house and on those of other people in their community (sweat equity).

  9. Workingwith International GroupTeams GV Groups are an essential part of Habitat Honduras Program. You can know more about GV TEAMS at www.gvhonduras.com We try our best to give you a long lasting experience with the families, in the construction and in the country! International volunteers working hand by hand with beneficiary families.

  10. FamilySelectionProcess • A local Committee formed by volunteers within the community selects the families. Some of the criteria are: • Level of need • Renting or living in a substandard house. • Parents with Children under care. • Can afford to pay the mortgage. • Availability to participate in “sweat equity”. Habitat’s selection processes are nondiscriminatory and welcome homeowners from all races and religions.

Meethouse 48m2 Cost: $6,000 Design: living-dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a small front porch Family pays: Approx. $50.00-$80.00/month All of our houses are built with concrete blocks(or adobe blocks) and structurally reinforced with steel, aluzinc board ceiling(alloy of aluminum and zinc), polished concrete floors.

Meethouse 36m2 Cost: $5,000 Design: living-dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom Family pays: Approx. $50.00-$70.00/month All of our houses are built with concrete blocks(or adobe blocks) and structurally reinforced with steel, aluzinc board ceiling(alloy of aluminum and zinc), polished concrete floors.

Through your donations to strengthen our Land Fund. Sponsoring houses ($6,000 and $5,000) Financing special projects to needy communities.( E.g. Copan Ruins Project) Donating men-hours by building houses in country. (Teams) Donating construction materials and equipment. Tithing Honduras Program and Help us to give a chance to our families in need of a decent home.
