  2. The PLOT of a story is the arrangement of ideas and or incidents that makes up a story. Particularly as they relate to each other in pattern or sequence. • The "why" for the things that happen in the story • The plot draws the reader into the character's lives and helps the reader understand the choices that the characters make. Think of the PLOT as the “meat and potatoes” of the story. This is what makes the story what it is. PLOT

Set-up (exposition, entry, beginning) • Introduces all the characters, and the setting. • Rising Action: • Introduction of the conflict • Character understands goal and starts working towards it • Climax: • Major event, turning point, big decision. • Struggle • Falling Action: • Loose ends are tied up. • Resolution: • Ending • What happened and WHY • “Winner” The terms for the plot of the story vary, but the idea is always the same PLOT

  6. PROTAGONIST: The most important character in a work (story). • ANTAGONIST: A major character in a work (story) whose values or behavior are in conflict with those of the protagonist or hero. Protagonist/Antagonist
