FACULTY OF MARITIME STUDIES IN SPLIT • Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split is a public higher education institution that has been organising and performing university studies and developing highly professional and scientific work in Split since 1959. • Since 2000 Bureau Veritas and the Croatian Register of Shipping have certified Faculty of Maritime Studies in compliance with the ISO 9002 quality standards for higher education and training, scientific and professional work, and publishing activities. • The provided education meets the requirements of STCW convention (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) and the Book of Rules about titles and certificates of qualification of seafarers aboard Croatian merchant ships. • The faculty is equipped with modern teaching equipment according to the requirements of IMO (International Maritime Organisations). The facilities include nautical and marine engineering simulators, GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety) equipment, high-tech informatics laboratory and electro-technical laboratory.

  3. FACULTY OF MARITIME STUDIES IN SPLIT Faculty of Maritime studies have very strong and experienced experts and scientific staff in the maritime technologies fields. Faculty of Maritime Studies carries out university study programmes atundergraduate and graduate level. • Undergraduate study programmes take three years, with 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits allocated, leading to the academic titleBaccalaureus or Baccalaureain Maritime Transport with the title of the study indicated. • A completed undergraduate study programme is followed by a graduate study programme, with 120 ECTS credits allocated, leading to the academic titleMaster of Sciencei.e. Master in Maritime Transport with the title of the study indicated. The study programmes are: • nautical studies, • maritime technologies of yachts and marinas, • marine engineering, • maritime electro technical and information technologies • maritime systems and processes and • maritime management.

NAUTICAL STUDIES • to provide regular education for the most senior officers' ranks (Chief Mate and Masters on ships of more than 3,000 gross tonnage) for Croatian and world markets, • to raise awareness of the importance of safety of at sea and environmental protection through the continuing education and training of seamen, • to foster a scientific approach to the revival of the Croatian maritime economy, • to promote quality assurance in maritime higher education institutions in line with the world and EU standards, as well as with Bologna Declaration, and • to promote lifelong learning in line with the STCW 1978/95 Convention (mobility and world comparability of programmes, teachers and students) and retraining programmes of EU METNET projects.

MARITIME TECHNOLOGIES OF YACHTS AND MARINAS • Regular professional education (Yacht Master 100 GT for Croatian charter companies and international market), • Regular professional education (Yacht Master 500 GT for Croatian charter companies and international market), • Regular education for marina management for Croatian charter companies and international market, • to provide regular education for the most senior officers' ranks (Chief Mate and Masters on ships of more than 3,000 gross tonnage) for Croatian and world markets (3 + 2 years), • Regular education for Croatian shipping companies and international market and • Contribution to the development of safety at sea and marine environment protection within regular education and training of seamen.

MARINE ENGINEERING • to provide regular education for officers with highest ranks on board ( Second Marine Engineer Officer and Chief Engineer on board ships of 3,000 gross Kw output or more) for Croatian and world shipping markets, • to raise awareness of the importance of safety of life at sea and environmental protection through a system of continuous education and training of seafarers, • to foster the scientific approach to the revival of the Croatian maritime economy, • to promote quality assurance in maritime higher education institutions in line with the world and EU standards, as well as with the Bologna Declaration, and • to promote lifelong learning in line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers - STCW 1978/95 Convention (mobility and world comparability of programmes, teachers and students) and retraining programmes of EU METNET projects.

MARINE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES • Graduation from this study enables students to make careers aboard ships all over the world, in companies dealing with maritime transport technology, coast guard, ports, as well as in companies dealing with development, design, installation (shipbuilding) and maintenance of computational, electronic, communication and navigation systems and systems of automated process management in maritime industry, and acquiring vocational qualifications and authorities on merchant ships.

  15. MARITIME MANAGEMENT • active involvement in business activities, • active involvement in company management, • active involvement especially in shipping organizations and • acquiring the title and competence in national and word trade fleet.

  16. NEWS Alternative education for officers allows certificates for: • master of a ship of 3000 GT or greater, and • chief engineer of 3000 kW or the stronger. The proposal for new master level study program with Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia entitled: • On shore and Off shore engineering. • Croatian Chamber of traffic and transportation engineers – 2008.
