  3. Introduction • Khajuraho is a small ancient town located in the heart of India-Madhya Pradesh, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. What makes this small ancient town special is the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain Temples surrounded by Vindhya mountain range.

  4. About The Temples of Khajuraho • These temples are dedicated to 2 religions which depict the idea of acceptance and respect for diverse religious views of Hindu and Jainism. India surely has a lot to offer to all soul travelers are ancient temples of Khajuraho must be visited with a golden triangle tour package. • These temples in Khajuraho are made of different sandstones and the city derives its name from ‘Khajur’ which means date palm in the Hindi language, as the city walls are adorned with the ‘date Palm’ trees the city was known as Kajjurpur in ancient time and then it changed to Khajuraho.

  5. The ancient temples of Khajuraho are known for the Nagara style of architecture and erotic sculptures carved on the walls of temples. Most of the temples in Khajuraho were built by the Chandela Dynasty between 950 and 1050. The archaeological department says that there were 85 temples by 12th century from which only 25 survived, and the rest got ruined due to natural calamities. • The Chausath Yogini temple in Khajuraho is a ruined Devi temple in Khajuraho which is dedicated to female goddess Yogini, which is a female attendant of the mother goddess. The Goddess is identified as Brahmani, Maheshvari, Hingalaja, and Mahishamardini which are other names of Goddess Durga.

  6. The Lalguan Mahadeva Temple is also a ruined Shiva temple in Khajuraho which were built back in 900 CE. This is the second oldest temple of Khajuraho which survived, the first one is Chausath Yogini temple. These both Temples are made of granite and the Lalgaun temple is made on the bank of Lalguan Sagar lake. • The Chaturbhuj temple in Khajuraho is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, where the name Chaturbhuj means ‘one who has four arms’. This is the only temple in Khajuraho where you will not find any erotic sculpture during your Golden triangle holidays.
