Project Planning- SMART Analysis • Specific – • What: what do I want to accomplish • Why: specific reason, purpose or benefit of accomplishing the goal. • Who: is involved • Where: identifying the location • Which: identifying requirements and constraints • Measurable – • How much? • How many? • How will I know when it is accomplished? • Attainable – • How can the goal be accomplished? • Relevant – • Does it seem worthwhile? • Is this the right time? • Does this match our other efforts/needs? • Time-bound- • When?, What can I do six weeks from now? What can I do today?

Assessing your project 4 key terms • Input – the resources that are to be used to run a service or project; the money, people, facilities, equipment • Outputs – the number of participants in your service/project • Outcome – behavioural change (goals) that your service/project wants to achieve. • Management reporting – outline your performance management framework, mechanism and information- including risk management.

Example: Summer Activity for Young Offenders Safer Southwark Partnership Priorities Reducing offending, including reoffending Safer Southwark Partnership Crime : Youth Violence, Anti-Social Behaviour, Weapon Enabled Crime, Robbery Our Project Outcome (Goal): Reduced reoffending by Young People in the targeted area Our Performance Target: 50 young people with a history of offending will complete the programme of summer activity, and of these 30 will confirm they have not offended over the summer period

Example: Parenting Workshops Safer Southwark Partnership Priorities: Supporting families and those with multiple disadvantage Safer Southwark Partnership Crime : Youth Violence, Domestic Abuse, Anti Social Behaviour Our Project Outcome (Goal): More cohesive families in the targeted area Our Performance Target: 20 parents will complete the parenting programme and 15 will confirm they have better parenting skills after four weeks

Things to Remember • Link your project to Safer Southwark Partnership Priorities • Describe how people will sign up to the project, if this involves referrals from other agencies, please list who they are. • Be clear about how many individuals will • Commence the project • Complete the project • Demonstrate outcomes • These will be different – people will drop out • Describe how you will manage your performance. You should think about having • a range of verifiers that involve client verification as well as that of your • project staff. • Be innovative and get clients involved in everything you do, your project is more likely to achieve its outcomes this way.
