  4. What is Fab 50? • You are are assigned one Fab 50 student to work with during the first semester. • Freshman in Fab 50 were recommended for the program from a variety of sources (most commonly their 8th grade counselor). • Each Monday, you will eat lunch with your Fab 50 freshman in Room 210. You will take whatever lunch your freshman normally takes. • At this time, you will provide support services that may include tutoring, instruction in study skills, or leadership training. • On Mondays, you will also select another lunch to take for your personal use. • During the final 1/3 of class, we will meet for Circle Time.

  8. What is the Freshmen Pull? • The Freshman Pull is when you take one of your freshman out of class in order to talk and build a relationship. • It is separate from the Fab 50.

  9. How do we do a Freshmen Pull? • Decide who you will pull. • Call them during the week so that you know that they will be available. • Emphasize that they will be responsible for any work that they miss while they are gone. • On Monday, turn in a pass to excuse them from class. • On Thursday, pick up your freshmen from class and bring them to Rooms 210/212. • If there is a problem, be sure to let Danton or Johnson know.

  10. When do we do Freshmen Pulls? • During the 2nd half of every Thursday. • Pull all of your freshmen at least once during each marking period. • Record your meeting (and all other contacts) on the Freshmen Contact Sheet.

  11. What do I do during a Freshmen Pull? • Figure out how to best help your freshmen. This will mean different things for different freshmen • Connect students to activities in the school. • Assist them in setting long and short term goals. • Work on time-management strategies. • Ask about problems they are having and school. Don't give advice: Help them to solve their own problems. • Ask them about successes that they have had in school. Help them identify what made them successful. • Help them to organize their backpacks. • Tutor them in specific subjects.
