  1. Installing VMware & the Data ONTAP Simulator SE Technical Academy

  2. Installation Overview • Copy the trial version of vmware™ • When you return to your office you should request approval from your manager for a fully licensed version. You will be able to just plug in the serial number once you receive it. You will not have to reinstall. • http://se-web.corp.netapp.com/cgi-bin/form_engine/form_engine.pl/se_tools/iwant/index.html?conf=vm_license • Install vmware • Copy the Linux Image • Setup the simulator

  3. Create a Directory on your machine • Create a directory somewhere on you machine called SETA • Copy all the files from the CD (provided by your instructor) to this new folder.

  4. Double-click VMware-workstation-5 • Double-click the VMware-workstation-5.Temp.exe to begin the VMware installation.

  5. Accept all the defaults for the installationEnter the Serial #, Click Finish • Accept all the defaults for the VMware installation. • When prompted open VMWare_Temp_License.doc for the temporary Serial Number.

  6. Double-click the RH_Linux9.exe file. Browse to My Virtual MachinesUnzip

  7. Double-click RH_Linux9 folderDouble-click RedHat_Linux9.vmx

  8. Add this VM to your favoritesVM | Add to Favorites

  9. Set the CD-ROM iso fileFollow the 7 steps, then click OK 1 4 2 5 3 6 7

  10. Start the virtual machine 1

  11. If you get either of these messages,Click OK

  12. Start the virtual machineKeep the existing identifier 2

  13. It may take a minute to look like this.Enter your login and password Login: root Password: netapp Note: Use Ctrl-Alt to move in and out of the simulator window.

  14. Issue the following commands to mount the CD drive & begin simulator installation Accept defaults except where noted.

  15. Continue Simulator InstallAdd 11 disks Accept defaults except where noted. As much as you have room for, in this case 11 Gigabytes

  16. Simulator Installation Complete

  17. Starting the Simulatorcd /sim./runsim.sh

  18. Hostname[]: Enter Something Heretimezone [GMT]: US/Pacific New password: netapp Note: Hostname will show up as your CLI prompt “filer70>” in this case. Accept defaults except where noted. netapp netapp

  19. Defaults, netapp and 2 for Workgroup authentication. Accept defaults except where noted. netapp netapp

  20. Defaults and set another password Accept defaults except where noted. netapp netapp

  21. Congratulations! You have a filer, a simulated filer that is. Accept defaults except where noted. Press the Enter key. netapp

  22. ifconfig –a To get your IP address for you filer

  23. http://ipaddress of filer/na_adminLaunches FilerView for your simulator User: root Password: netapp
