  3. Socialization is the process by which members enter into and become a part of a group. Socialization is a continuous process. What leaders do to orient or reorient their officers into the organization greatly affects the learning of roles, organizational goals, and expectations. If leaders do not conduct deliberate socialization programs, they run the risk that their officers will learn their roles from inappropriate models.. TO THE QUESTIONS CONTENTS PAGE END

Your leader had stressed the importance of reducing night time commercial burglaries. This was important to you since the shift had the highest burglary arrest rate in the patrol division last year and the your squad had the highest rate on the shift. You wanted your squad to be the best once again. The new officers receive careful attention from their Field Training Officers and the sergeants. Indeed, most of the shift chain of command effort seems to be on the new officers and they appear to quickly adopt the shifts values. The veterans, however, are largely left on their own. You soon notice that your veteran officers are meeting for coffee during the night. They get the job done, but seem to be falling behind on their burglary arrests.
