  1. Math Fights Hunger Create a storyboard before producing your multi-media project.

  2. Describe the Quest • In 2014, my math class was challenged to solve the problem of world hunger • At first I thought, easy…we’ll just do a can food drive or raise money to send to a poor country. • Then the challenge presented itself. We were asked to fight hunger by using minimization of calories which seems counterintuitive. • …….Our journey began

  3. The proposition • By evaluating the foods available in a country, we were to see the “holes” in the diet of the people of our assigned country, _____________. • We were also asked to examine the nutritional values of foods; it would help no one to oversupply nutrients the population already had available. • ____________________________________________________________________________________

  4. Our Research Findings: Describe the foods available. In a conversational manner indicate: • the food groups that were fulfilled, and the foods that applied to the group • The food groups that weren’t met in your country • The nutrients that seemed to be vacant in the diet of the population

  5. Discuss the contextual reasons for hunger in your nation: What factors are prohibiting the population from obtaining food. • When we examined background information about our country, we found:

  6. Our plan for meeting the nutritional needs of the population

  7. Describe the purpose of minimization in the context of this project and the general steps taken to determine the precise amounts of foods needed to provide for the country.

  8. Provide a chart or graph displaying your mathematical findings. Describe these findings.

  9. Reflection on the process: How did your thinking about world hunger and solving the problem of world hunger change through this process? How did this project impact your perception of how math is used in the real world?
