  2. Characteristics of Agriculture in Chernivtsi region • Total area – 809,6 thousand ha. • Area of farmland – 473,4 thousand ha. • Arable land – 339,2 thousand ha. • 134,2 thousand ha.– area of perennial plants, hayfields and pastures • – 0,51 ha of farmland per resident

Characteristics of gardening in the region • The area of fruit gardens  is - 28 thousand ha (on the 1 of January 2010) • The largest area of gardens in the following districts: • Khotyn – 7964 ha • Novoselytsya - 4443 ha • Sokyryany – 4377 ha This districts are on the banks of te rivers Prut and Dnister

  9. General information The area of fruit gardens  is - 28 thousand ha (on the 1 of January 2010) • 85,5% of gardens are private • Corporation Dniester brings together more than 200 farms with total area of 4.4 thousand ha.

  10. Major crop grown in the region are apples ( more 80% )

  11. Perspectives • Regional NGO “First agrarian cluster”propose diversification of products. For export interesting are: • Pears • Walnuts • Strawberries • Black currant

The amount of gardeningproduction  • Productivity of gardens of intensive type (19% from all gardens in the region) – 20000-23000 kg / ha • The total amount of  gardening production– 230 thousand t. • Production of apples and pears - 184 thousand t. • Planned amount of gardering in 2015 – 400-450thousand t.

  13. Product storage is important element of achieving maximum profit from the garden • There is product storage for 14 thousand t. in the region • This number of storage  is too small for the whole amount.

  15. Logistic Center Regional NGO  “First agrarian cluster" initiates marketing logistics center that will facilitate the formation wholesale parties, packaging  and transportation of products in Ukraine and abroad.

  16. The advantages of gardening in Bukovina • fruitful land and favorable weather conditions; • intensive gardening development; • high taste and fruit quality; • relatively low cost of production • favorable geographical position;

  17. Weaknesses • low quality of planting material; • low  of marketing level, including wholesale parties of products formation; • lack of modern fruit storage.

  18. Uniting the efforts of all players in agrarian market to improve the situation in agriculturein the region.
