  4. TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS Distance to Chernivtsi from other cities: Distance to closest borders crossings: in January 1, 2007 Chernivetska oblast became a neighbour of the European Union (distance from Chernivtsi to the border with Romania is only 40 km).

  5. INFRUSTRUCTURE OF CHERNIVTSI TRANSPORT Municipal transport. Consists of 46 bus and 10 trolleybus routes. Railway transport. There is direct railway service to Kyiv, Moscow, Minsk, St.-Petersburg, Bucharest, Sofia and Warna. Air transport. Municipal enterprise "Chernivtsi" International Airport“functions in the city. The airport has been in municipalownership since 2006. It is of high priority for the developmentof transport infrastructure of the region.

The success of these enterprises depends mostly on the financial assets accessibility. In order to constantly develop enterprises need even more - access to information, local authority support, investments into new technologies, cooperation with other companies and access to new markets.

  13. TOURIST CHERNIVTSI Chernivtsi – one of several cities of Ukraine with city building such quality and value. First of all tourist potential of the city caused by presence of considerable quantity of monuments of architecture from different epoch and the ethnic cultures, by a rich palette of local customs and the ceremonies, traditional national crafts. The state register of monuments of architecture totals 689 monuments and objects of the cultural heritance, 24 of national significance.

  14. FINANCE AND CREDIT SYSTEM Developed finance and credit system is established in the city. Banks: For January 1, 2010 56 subsidiaries, branches and representative offices of Ukrainian banks are located in Chernivtsi. They provide a wide range of finance and credit services for both population and businessmen. Loan societies and insurance companies work in Chernivtsi.

INDICATORS OF ECONOMICALAND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT According to the expert investigation of the “Focus” journal the city of Chernivtsi has gained the first place in the rating of comfort of Ukrainian citiesamong cities with population from 250 thousand to 500 thousand citizens. Tourist and investment attractiveness, infrastructure development, ecological safety and other criteria were taken into account while evaluation.   21. EDUCATION Chernivtsi is a well known scientific and educational centre in Ukraine and abroad. Research institutions work in Chernivtsi in the field of materials research, thermoelectric research, medical and ecological problems. 51 institutions of secondary education work in Chernivtsi, about 22074 pupils study there. There are 26 institutions of higher education in the city including 12 institutions of III-IV accreditation level and 14 institutions of I-II accreditation level.

  22. HEALTH CARE Medical service in Chernivtsi is provided by 38 medical institutions including: 16 institutions of municipal ownership, 19 institutions of Chernivetska oblast ownership and 3 - institutional. Capacity of medical institutions in Chernivtsi is 3185 visits per one shift. Number of beds in out-patients department is 980. Medical personnel preparation is conducted by Bukovynian State Medical University and basic school.

CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT The following institutions work in the city: • 18 sports clubs managed by the Department of Culture of Chernivtsi City Council; • 5 schools of aesthetic education; • 23 libraries; • 3 cinemas; • O. "Super Cross" International sport centre functions in Chernivtsi. Annually European and World Motorcycle Championships are held there.

  26. AUTHORITIES The representative authority of Chernivtsi community is Chernivtsi City Council, it includes 60 deputies. Standing Commissions of the City Council: • on legitimacy, human rights, regulations, deputy activity and ethics; • on economics, budget and finance; • on land relations, architecture and building; • on housing, communal economy and environment protection; • on labor and social care; • on education, science, culture, sport and youth policy; • on health care.
