  2. Group and Partner Work • Get Along: We will not argue! • Respect Others: We will listen to others ideas and opinions! • On Task Behavior: Are you doing your job? On task talking only! • Use Your Quiet Voices: Only your group should hear you! • Participate: Do your part, don’t let others do your work for you! • Stay in Your Group: If you need something, raise your hand!

  3. Reading • Only read and/or breath • You need to have book with you at all times. • Classroom books are off limits, at this time. • Be prepared!

  4. Classroom Interruptions • Read and breathe • Phone rings . . . • Someone is at the door . . . • We are walking to the library and . . . • Other times . . .

  5. Types of Reading • Holiday: you love and are generally below where you are capable. We will not be reading Holiday books in 7th grade. • Independent: Usually less than 1 error per 100 words. Good fit books! • Instructional: Usually 2-5 unfamiliar words per 100 words. Classroom reading. • Frustrational: 5 or more unfamiliar words, only 70% understanding (comprehension)

  6. Picking a Book 1. High interest 4.Right level 2. Grade level 5. 3 word rule Appropriate 6. New to you • 3. One chapter before calling it quits

  7. Language • Words hurt • If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all! • Consequences for using language considered inappropriate.

  8. ELA NOTEBOOK • Reading/Writing/Grammar/New Words/Root Word sections • Only ELA material goes in ELA notebook • No doodling • No fringes from papers • Must come to class everyday
