  2. Student Behaviors • I expect you to do your best to understand and speak French in class. • I expect that you will work outside of class every day and try and use French as much as possible in your home and at school. This means using the online aids. • I expect that you will come prepared for class, take notes, participate, and not distract others. • I expect you to make-up work if you are absent, or better yet, don’t be absent. • I expect that you will respect the teacher, clean up after yourself, and respect others.

  3. How will we track these behaviors? • Name on the board = Lose 5 points. You have 100 points per term. • 90-100 = O utstanding • 80-90 = S atisfactory • 70-80 = N eeds improvement • 0-60 = U nsatisfactory CITIZENSHIP GRADE & 5% OF TERM GRADE

  4. Why do I take the time? • You need to feel safe, and you should treat everyone kindly. When people are rude or mean, it is hard to feel happy and safe. • We speak French because our goal is to learn French. That won’t happen if we are silent all the time. If you know how to say it in French, say it in French. • I also think taking care of the classroom and each other is a sign of respect, and it makes my job easier. You want a happy teacher.

  5. Grades • Turn your stuff in on time. Do it late, don’t expect full credit. Minus 10% each class period. • Quizzes can be retaken, but Exams can NOT. Exams = 20% of grade. Quizzes = 50%. • If you have an “F” you need to make it up right away. You just need to get 80% on ALL your quizzes to pass French. • Homework = 25% of grade

  6. Extra Credit? • Yes • Cultural “show and tells” • Video and music clips • Current events • Make French food • Share French stuff you have • Pictures • Dance, sing, art, etc. • Other occasional assignments when noted on your homework tracker.

  7. And look at the number of speakers compared to the other world languages

  8. BRING STUFF • We need supplies: Kleenex, dry erase markers, and erasers, pens, or pencils, and notebook paper. • We have parties. Bring food, paper products, or whatever. • BOTH ARE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES! • 20 points per item.

  9. Grading • Grades are based on the accumulation of points by category. • Points are based on: • Class participation (effort) 5% • Homework 25% • Exams 20% • Quizzes 50% • Grades are posted on Skyward. • Our Grading Scale • 94-100% = A • 90-94% = A- • 87-90% = B+ • 84-87% = B • 80-84% = B- • 77-80% = C+ • 74-77% = C • 70-74% = C- • Below 70% = F/I • Categories include: quizzes (50%), exams (20%), assignments (15%) and homework (15%).
