Waukesha County Technical College Facts • Located in Pewaukee, WI • Total Enrollment: 23,432 • FTE Program students: 4,575 • Associate degrees (6,283), technical diplomas (1,750), short term certificates, apprenticeships, personal improvement courses (many non-credit) • Additional campus for high school completion and ESL • 130 areas of study • Open Enrollment

Academic Advising Structure • Located in Counseling & Advising Center • Conveniently next to Enrollment Center One-Stop Shop • Academic Advising model began in 2009 • Began with 5 Academic Advisors, now 9 • Counseling & Advising Center and Enrollment Center were remodeled/built in 2010 • Model allows for efficient communication and easy access to Admissions, Registration, Billing, Counseling, Financial Aid, Records, Career Services, Recruitment

WCTC Academic Advising • Meet with prospective, new and continuing students • Academic advisors help students: • Explore and understand programs  • Navigate the enrollment process • Make course selections • Set up short-term & long-term degree plans • Understand college policies and procedures • Track progress towards graduation • Transfer to other institutions • Connect with campus resources

  5. WCTC Academic Advising • Advisory Boards  • Department/Division meetings • Individual on-going meetings with Faculty, Associate Deans, and Deans • Student Services • Dislocated Worker Programming • Student Groups • Community agencies • Special population case management

  6. WCTC Academic Advising Mission WCTC Academic Advisors provide tools and information to empower students to develop their career goals and to achieve academic success. Through campus-wide collaboration, advisors serve as advocates to help students to reach their full potential.

Partnerships: Admissions • Transfer of Credit Technician • Getting Started Sessions • Special Admissions Requirements • Collaboration when students reapply to same program • AP & CLEP scores routed to Advisors for entry • High School Advanced Standings and Transcripted credit • Exceptions based on program needs • Attend Admissions meetings to provide updates

Partnerships: Assessment • Collaborate with Assessment and Program areas • Special projects • Confer with Assessment to clarify correct placement • Referral to Academic Advisors regarding CLEP testing and after completion of Assessment • Coordinator frequently attends Academic Advisor meetings

Partnerships: Registration • Resolve student registration issues • Pre-requisites • Registration status • Dual Enrollment • Reactivation of students & curriculum clarification (program specific sections) • Update student personal information • Override time conflicts & overbook sessions (per approval of Academic Advisor or Associate Dean) • Actively collaborate with Academic Advisors for scheduling problemsin a timely manner • Coordinate Advanced Standing processing • Reports (Cognos) • Grant related course enrollment

  10. Partnerships: Records • Graduation application process • Degree audits • Advanced Standings • Work experience • Military experience • Substitutions • CLEP, AP, proficiency assessments • Common substitutions • Collaborate with Deans/Associate Deans

Partnerships: Registrar • Collaboration with Registrar • Liaison between Registrar and Program Departments • Resolve complex registration/student record issues  • Final courses taken at another institution, 25% residency • Academic Forgiveness • Academic Standing (Probation) • Course section and course number issues • Updates on Registration process • Mid-term status report • Advising Handouts • FERPA
