  1. That You May “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb”—John 1:1-34

  2. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” John 20:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

  3. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

  4. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 17:5 “glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”

  5. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Phili 2:6 “Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,”

  6. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Heb 1:2 “spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;”

  7. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word • Eternal – He (The Word) was in the beginning • Distinction – He (The Word) was WITH God • Divinity – He (The Word) WAS God 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  8. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word “With God (pros ton theon). Though existing eternally with God the Logos was in perfect fellowship with God. Pros with the accusative presents a plane of equality and intimacy, face to face with each other.” —Word Pictures in the New Testament

  9. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word “The preposition, . . . often used in the New Testament in the sense of with; and that not merely as being near or beside, but as a living union and communion; implying the active notion of intercourse . . . Thus John's statement is that the divine Word not only abode with the Father from all eternity, but was in the living, active relation of communion with Him.” (Vincent’s Word Studies – John 1:1)

  10. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word John 1:5 (NKJV) 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. • 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. • ‘The Light shines’ - & continues to be found in Christ, the Word. - (cf. Ps 27:1; 36:9; 56:13; Isa 60:1-3, 5,19; John 1:8,9; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35,46; 14:6)

  11. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” The Divine Personality of The Word • ‘The darkness did not comprehend it’ - • Darkness- refers to wickedness, ignorance, death, sin - all separated from God. • Comprehended not- (1. to grasp; 2. to overcome or subdue) - used in the latter sense - 12:35; 1 Thes 5:4 John 1:5 (NKJV) 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

  12. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” John 1:6-8 (NKJV) 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. John bore witness that he was not the light, but that the Light was ‘preferred’ before him for the Light is the Son of God. - cf. 1:15,27,30,34

  13. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” Life Rejected or Received • The true light is available to all - 9 • The world that was made through Him did not know him & was rejected by the Jewish nation - 10, 11 • Those who receive Him; i.e., those who believe in His name, are given the power to become children of God - 12 • God is the source of, and has provided the means of, the new birth – NOT MAN. 13 - (cf. Mat. 16:13-19; Gal. 1:11,16; 1 Pet 1:22-25) John 1:4 (NKJV) 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

  14. “The Word, The Light, The Glory & The Lamb” • The Word entered into a new mode of being, not a new being. (Phili 2:7,8) • He became flesh, and did not merely clothe Himself in flesh. (Heb 2:14-18) • The incarnation demands that the Divine Spirit of Jesus assumed self imposed limitations, so as to undergo the human experience. (Heb 5:7; 1 John 4:2,3; 2 John 1:7) John 1:14 (NKJV) 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

  17. Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV) 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

  18. Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV) 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
