  5. What do the characters do? • John the Baptist points Andrew and Simon to Jesus (36) • Andrew finds Simon Peter and he brings him to Jesus. (41-42) • Andrew finds Philip and brings Philip to Jesus (43)

  6. Who finds Philip? • “the next day he wished to go forth into Galilee, and finds Philip. And Jesus says to him, “follow me” • Jesus never finds anyone else in this passage. • John inserts Jesus as the subject of the sentence beginning with, “he (Jesus) said to him”. • John tells us in verse 44 that Philip was also from Bethsaida. This shows that Philip, Andrew, and Peter were home town buddies and explains why Andrew would go and look for Philip.

  7. What do the characters do? • John the Baptist points Andrew and Simon to Jesus (36) • Andrew finds Simon Peter and he brings him to Jesus. (41-42) • Andrew finds Philip and brings Philip to Jesus (43) • Philip finds Nathanael and invites him to “Come and See” (45) for himself

  8. What’s the Big Idea? Our role is to bring our friends to Jesus and let Jesus take care of the rest.

  9. What does Jesus do? • Jesus invites people into a relationship (38-39) • Jesus gives people a new identity (42) • Jesus calls people to follow him (43) • Jesus promises to demonstrate his glory forever through his work of salvation done on the cross (51).

  10. How can we bring our friends to Jesus too? • Invite them into your life • Ask permission to pray for them • Invite them to pray about something – “have you ever asked God about that?” • Invite them to watch something with you • Invite them to read the Bible • Invite them to church
