Slide info Slides2 – Please remind the students that they need to complete the 10 hours of volunteering by the 30th October Slides 6 – 9 Starter – get the students into pairs and get them to come up with aims and objectives for a paper plane competition. You will need lined and plain paper from the Welsh Bacc office Slides 10 + lesson content Lesson info This lesson is to get the students to come up with a 3 x aims and 2 x objectives for each aim. Go through the slides that show some examples of what aims and objectives are. There is a worksheet that needs to be completed to help them go through the process of writing up aims and objectives in student resources. Once they have finished the worksheet, the students can then transfer their work to their individual project document. PLEASE use the notes pages to help you with the slides Homework – due in next lesson To collect evidence and complete their volunteering booklets ready for the next lesson as they will need to use these in the 2 lessons after half term.   4. Starter - Paper Aeroplanes..... Get into pairs and answer the following question within 2 minutes…… What are the aims and objectives of a paper aeroplane competition?

  5. What are AIMS and OBJECTIVES? Aim – What you are setting out to do Objectives – The steps you needs to take to get there.

  6. Paper Aeroplanes (2) • What is your aim of the Paper Aeroplane competition? (look on the whiteboard) Now write the answer to the following question: • What are your objectives? How are you going to reach your aim? • Now you can get making-you have 5 minutes.

  12. The Aim of my Project is to..... • You now need to apply your understanding of what an aim is, to create your own aims. Each aim should be • No more than two sentences long • A summary of what you hope to achieve in your investigation • Should include the detail of your title • There needs to be a minimum of 3 aims

  13. Example Title “Should Wales adopt a presumed consent law for Organ Donation?” Aims • Research into the pros and cons of organ donation and ‘presumed consent’ • Research and analyse two countries who have introduced presumed consent • Gather public and expert opinions on presumed consent

Activity 1 • Open the word document “Lesson 8_Aims and Objectives” Located in: stresources – Welsh Bacc – Welsh Bacc Year 11 – Individual Project • AIMS Task: Complete steps 1 – 3 of the worksheet Write at least 3 aims for your project. Think about what you are aiming to investigate and how are you going to do this.

Example 1 Title: “Should Wales adopt a presumed consent law for Organ Donation?” Aim • Research into the pros and cons of organ donation and ‘presumed consent’ Objectives • Research online into the ethical arguments for and against presumed consent • Research online to find out the medical arguments for and against presumed consent

Example 2 Title: “Should Wales adopt a presumed consent law for Organ Donation?” Aim • Research and analyse two countries who have introduced presumed consent Objectives • Research and evaluate Spain’s introduction of presumed consent • Research and evaluate Norway’s introduction of presumed consent

Objectives • Create, conduct and analyse a questionnaire about the public’s opinions about organ donation and presumed consent • Gather an expert’s perspective by interviewing Dr. Richard Hobson, local GP.

  20. Activity 2 • Complete steps 4 – 5 in your word document “Lesson 8_Aims and Objectives” OBJECTIVES Task: Write at least 2 objectives for each aim that you have written for your project. Think about how you are going to achieve that aim.

Extension Activity(Original Worksheet located in stresources – Welsh Bacc – Welsh Bacc Year 11 – Individual Project ) • Open your the word document “Individual Project” • Check that you have completed the following tasks from your PSE lesson this week: • Write your name and Tutor group in the header • Add your title to the front sheet and images that represent your title • Write your introduction to your project 3. AIMS AND OBJECIVES TASK : • Transfer your aims and objectives from your lesson 8 worksheet to your project document. • Ask a peer to see if your aims and objectives will help you investigate your project title. • Make an changes that you and your peer think is needed
