  2. Dynamic, Internal Content Filter icouldbe.org developed an adaptive text filter that prevents adults and minors from contacting one another outside of our moderated, online community.  13,000 users have experienced this filter over the last 5 years. The filter reads all text between all members of the community, prevents personally identifying information and inappropriate messages from reaching their intended targets and presents flagged messages to administrators in an actionable and user-friendly interface. The filter adapts to each individual user’s profile, preventing them from transmitting identifying information. ISTTF Presentation 9/23/2008

  3. Product Context: This filter depends upon a community of verified and accountable students and volunteers. We use Trufina to verify the identities of our adult mentors and to ensure that they do not have troublesome criminal histories. All of our young people participate under the supervision of classroom teachers, who take responsibility for the validity of all of their student accounts. ISTTF Presentation 9/23/2008

  4. Quantitative Data and Results • 118,000 emails have been sent by 13,000 users. 1,581 (1.3%) of these emails have been stopped by the filter. • More than 85% of these stopped emails contained potentially identifying information and/or URLs. • Only 14% of stopped emails were profane. • With each updated, annual version of our filter we have fewer false positives.
