  2. Do You Know What Animal Shelters Are?

  3. Well, What is an Animal Shelter? • A place where animals live if they don’t have a home. • There are dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies that stay there. • There are no cows allowed! • Only members of the feline and the canine families are allowed in the Animal Shelter.

  4. Past, Present, and Future in Forsyth County • Past – In 1975, 17,000 people lived in Forsyth County • Present – Now, there are 132,000 people and pets that live in Forsyth County • That’s a difference of 115,000 people and pets! • Future – There will be even more because they are including people and pets in this study.

  5. What if there were no animal shelters?

  6. Wanted: Home • http://www.forsythpets.org/adopt • We need to help these adorable, cute animals!

  7. We need you to say YES! • So, you might be wondering why you are here. • We need to go to the Humane Society of Forsyth County on a field trip. • We need your permission to go there.

  8. Why do we need to go? • We need to get facts and information about the animals and the shelter. • We need to look at the live animals and their environment to know exactly what they need. • We also need to get information from the people that work there. • We need to take pictures and videos of the animals and the shelter.

  9. A No-Kill Shelter • An animal no-kill shelter means that the animals do not get killed. • It is important to support this kind of shelter so they can continue to keep the animals safe and alive. • If the animals aren’t kept safe, bad things could happen to them. • They give a chance to let people adopt a pet.

  10. Where is the shelter? • The animal shelter is in Forsyth County which is the same county we are in. • Our school is off of exit 13 on 400. • The animal shelter is off of exit 17 which is only 4 exits away going North. • The average speed on 400 is 60 miles per hour and since there are about 3 minutes between each exit it should take us about 15 minutes to get there. That’s pretty close!

  11. Our Ultimate Goal • We want the whole entire school to donate items to the Humane Society to help the animals in the shelter. • We will make announcements on the news, make flyers for families, and design posters to advertise our project.

  12. Thank You! • Thank you for thinking about letting us go on a field trip to help animals. • We know we are not going to save all of the animals but we CAN help some of them. • We appreciate you coming to our classroom and listening to our presentation.

  13. Questions?

  14. Goodbye! • Have a great day!
