  4. Oppervlakte • De oppervlakte is 9.372.614 km2. • Het land is 225,7 keer zo groot als Nederland, en ong. 280 miljoen inwoners. En de bevolking bestaat uit: • Indianen 1 % • Blanken 82 % • Negers 12 % • Aziaten 3 % • Overigen 2 %

De Bevolking • In de VS spreektmen : Engels, Spaans, Italiaans, Duits, Frans, Pools, Chinees • Veel mensen zijn gedurende de laatste 100 jr. naar de VS zijn geëmigreerd • De VS is een van de landen met de hoogste inkomens ter wereld • 76% woont in steden • 24% op het platteland • 1% is analfabeet ( niet kunnen lezen of schrijven )

De hoofdstad • De hoofdstad van de Verenigde Staten is Washington D.C., niet te verwarren met de staat Washington in Noord-westen van de VS • De eerste president George Washington heeft het Witte Huis laten bouwen en zo komt Washington D.C. aan zijn naam • Washington bevinden zich daarom de gebouwen van de Senaat en het Parlement • In de hoofdstad wonen l ong. 600.000 mensen, maar vele mensen wonen in diverse plaatsen rondom Washington

Geschiedenis • Columbus is de eerste Europeaan die in Amerika aan wal is gekomen in 1492 ,toen hij wou laten zien dat de wereld rond was en niet plat zoals alle mensen dachten. • Hij dacht dat hij op India zou komen, maar hij kwam aan op een nieuw werelddeel genoemd Amerika. • eerste kwamen de Spanjaarden en daarna de Engelsen in 1497 , toen ook nog de Italianen , de Fransen en de Nederlanders • De Nederlanders hebben ook een kolonie gemaakt in 1609, in de buurt van New York en noemden het Nieuw Nederland. De Nederlanders stichten ook nog Nieuw Amsterdam in 1625. De naam is later in New York verandert.

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! IV Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall standBetween their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
