The European Party • The European Party was founded in 2005 • Its main targets are: • Liberation of Cyprus from the Turkish occupation. • Maintain the Republic of Cyprus as a single, independent European State. • Evropaiko Komma (European Party) is a member of the European Democratic Party (EDP).

  3. GOEK • GOEK was founded in March 2006 • The main objectives of GOEK are: • To defend the human and political rights of women and the total of Cypriot citizens. • To demand conditions of democracy, social justice and safety across Cyprus for women and the total of Cypriot citizens. • To promote women’s and children’s rights in Cyprus and abroad. • To work for a European solution to the Cyprus Problem, a solution based on the principles and values of the European Union.

  4. GOEK – Activities : • Trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation • Vulnerable groups of Women • Congress “Special Education and Culture in schools with regards to equality – from Theory to Action”

  5. WISER Project • Women of rural areas are a group of population that does not enjoy equal opportunities as other groups. •  In Cyprus 28% of women are self employed at a full time basis. Of these 38% are employed in rural areas  • The main economic activities of self employed women irrespective of location are in the sectors of • Whole & Retail Trade 36% • Community, Social & Personal Service 22% • Hotels & Restaurants 15% • Health & Social Work 10% • Real Estate Renting & Business Activities 5%

  6. Women entrepreneurship in Cyprus • National figure of female entrepreneurs = 28% • Share of female entrepreneurs among the member enterprises (CCCI) = 2.5%

  7. Nationwide programme for the promotion of women entrepreneurship • organization of seminars / conferences • provision of finance through the Women’s Co-Operative Bank • conduct of lobbying • financing of start-up enterprises by women
