  2. HISTORY • It is believed to be the place where deity Aphrodite was born. • Cyprus, though a small island, has always played an important role in the history of the Mediterranean. • It has a strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea.

  3. The island was also subject to many invasions and the culture is a mixture of influences from many worlds. • Persians, Roman, Frankish,Venetian,Ottoman, British and Turkish are some of the Cyprus’ conquers.

  4. In 1st of October 1960, Cyprus gains independence and becomes 99th member of the United Nations. • Makarios becomes the first president of the Cyprus.

  5. Since 20th of July 1974 after the Turkish invasion, Cyprus is divided into two parts: the Greek-Cypriot part and Turkish-Cypriot part. • Since 1st of May 2004 Cyprus became a member of the European Union.

  6. A few information about Cyprus The weather is usually sunny and for this reason people go to various cities like Protaras, Ayia Napa and Paralimni . Cyprus has 6 big cities. Nicosia , Limassol , Larnaca , Pafos , Famagusta and Kyrenia. The Capital City is Nicosia .

  9. Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The biggest mountains in Cyprus are Pentadactylos and Troodos.

  10. SIGHTSEINGS This is Kourio.It is famous theatre for princes in old years. This is Tombs of the kings in Pafos. It is the place where they buried the kings of Cyprus. This is castle of Kolossi.This castle was destroyed and rebuilt in1454.

  11. This is Imprisoned Graves. There are buried heroes from1955-1959. This is Museum of Natural history in Kyperounda. There is an exhibition of old things.

  13. Traditional Cypriot food Seftalia is traditional Cypriot food, probably of French origin, introduced in Cyprus during the Franks. Koupepiais also known as vine leaves, a traditional dish of the Cypriot cuisine.

  14. Traditional Cypriot food Pastitsiois a traditional dish of the Greek cuisine. Souvla is a popular dish from the island of Cyprus.

  15. Activities • If you are the active type, there are various sports that you can practice during your visit to Cyprus which are fun and will keep you in shape.

  16. Activities • During the summer months, water sports’ enthusiasts have no difficulty finding the necessary sports equipment to practice their favourite activity, particularly in the resort towns – water-skiing, wind-surfing, paragliding, jet skiing, surfboarding.

  17. Activities • While golf is still a relatively new sport in Cyprus, there are three very good golf courses in the southwest of the island area.

  18. Activities • An exciting annual spectator sporting event is the Cyprus Rally, where enthusiasts can take a close look at the world’s best rally drivers. The results of this event have a bearing on the World Rally Championship.

  19. Activities • Hiking is probably not the most challenging sport in Cyprus, but it can be loads of fun. The best hiking opportunities are in the Akamas Peninsula and the Troodos Mountains.

  20. Activities • Football is by far the most popular sport in Cyprus and most Cypriot men love to play. Since the availability of full-size football fields is scarce, in the last ten years, the futsal scene has exploded in Cyprus.
