  1. The human body By: Daniel Park

  2. Introduction • Hello and this is my presentation of the human body. My name is called Daniel park. And if you have any questions e-mail me. Here is my e-mail: Daniel. Park@huskymail.cis.edu.sg Now let the show begin!!!!! Now

  3. The Body’s building blocks These tiny microdots are called cells and before you were even born you were one of these tiny microdots too. Go on take a peek to the next slide if you dare!

  4. DNA/ Deoxyribonucleic acid • DNA is in every living thing. When the DNA IS damaged the cells mutate and you get cancer. The structure of DNA is made out of all five things. They are hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus. Folic acid is used to produce and repair the DNA.DNA has all different kinds of shapes.DNA is also known for Deoxyribonucleic acid.

  5. Cells • Cells are the building blocks of your life. There are over a million cells in your body. There are 220 different kinds of cells in your body for example there is a bone cell, nerve cell, muscle cell, red blood cell, white blood cell and many other kinds of cells. Cell

  6. Nerve cell • A nerve cell is a huge part of the nervous system. It is the cell for that system. It’s job is to send electrical messages from the brain to the rest of the body like the muscles for you to react. You can also call it a neuron. When you sneeze you kill a thousands of nerve cells or neurons in the brain. A nerve cell looks a quite different from other cells in your body. It has a round circle in the middle and lines sticking out so the electrical messages can go out into the rest of the body.

  7. Stem cell • A stem cell has two unique ways. First of all it is unspecialized. Other cells like a brain cell is specialized so it can’t change into a white blood cell or other kinds of cells in your body. But a stem cell doesn't actually have a job. Instead they just make more of them selves. The important thing is that it can change to other cells if it has the right stimulus. There are several different types of cells. One of them are the embryonic which are gathered from blastocysts, or clusters of cells. Our body uses adult stem cells to repair damaged tissues. Cord blood stem cells have been great help in blood disorder problems.

  8. Others Find unorganized body systems!

  9. Muscular System • Muscles are components that help move the body around with the bones .Your muscles cover up most of the body. When you exercise your muscles get stronger and bigger .The muscular system has cells in them for the nerve cell to let it move.

  10. Kidneys • Your kidneys are kind of like the waste removers in the blood. The kidneys have seven functions WOW!! Some people live with only one kidney working but if both fail poisons will build up in the blood. A medicine called dialysis can remove the poisons in the blood. Your kidneys can filter up to 45 gallons in 24 hours…..AMAZING!!!

  11. Appendix • The Appendix is connected to the large intestine .The Appendix is right on the edge of the large intestine . It has no function to the to humans .If you keep your appendix on it can be dangerous because if the Appendix gets infected it will burst and will release many bacteria and cause organ failure and sometimes to death. The disease is called Appendicitis. This disease happens when you are between ten years old and thirty years old.

  12. Integumentary system Even through they are all dead you still need them!

  13. About Hair There are three types of hair the first one is Lanugo hair that is a fine and lightly colored hair when you are a baby. The second type is Vellus hair that is no longer than an inch .The third type is terminal hair it is thick, dark and it covers your head .If you didn’t have terminal hair on your head you would look totally weird. Your hair forms like this. Before you are a baby hair follicles form inside your skin. There are about a 100,000 hair follicles in your head. Then dead cells are pushed up the hair follicles and they make longer hair. The hair has three parts the outer coat is called the cuticle .The second inner part is called the cortex. And last of all the middle part is called the middle part is called the medulla.

  14. Nails • Nails are found on edges of our fingers and toes. Our nails are very similar to claws on other mammals. Our nails are made out of a tough protein called keratin as are on mammals claws and horns and hooves. There are parts of the nail. The hard part is called the nail plate. The side of the nail is called the nail groove. Then the part where the nail is stuck in is called the Eponychium.

  15. Skin • Skin is a soft outer-covering of the body. It is also a part of the immune system because it blocks pathogens from getting into your body. It is the largest organ from the integumentary system. The skin also protects the muscles, bones, ligaments and other inside things.

  16. The Body’s Armies and Allies CHARGE!!!! We must destroy any foreign invaders that attack us!!!

  17. White blood cells • White blood cells are the cells of the Immune system. They are the defense system. If any invading pathogens like bacteria or viruses come into the body your White blood cells come and gobble it up. The cool thing about the immune system is that it remembers how to kill the viruses. The immune system uses a small protein called a anti-body. When it reaches the viruses it sticks to it and neutrolizates the virus to kill them.

  18. Macrophage • Macrophages are the biggest white blood cells in the body. They gobble up any foreign invaders in the body. Macrophages are White blood cells that are produced by monocytes in the tissue. Monocytes and Macrophages are Phagocytes. Our Macrophages are 21 micrometers in diameter. In Greek Macrophages mean big eaters. There are different types of Macrophages for example there is a tissue Macrophages.

  19. T cell

  20. B cell

  21. Anti-body

  22. Natural killer cell

  23. Bloody BUSYBODIES PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM.

  24. Circulatory System • The Circulatory system is the heart pumping blood into the whole body. Your heart pumps blood in a pipe called a blood vessel. Your heart , blood and vessel make up your cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system is responsible to pump blood to every single part of your body and bring it back to the heart. Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood. It can handle three types of circulation. The heart also has it’s own vessels to bring back nutrition and get away waste. This is called coronary circulation. Pulmonary circulation means the heart sending blood to the lungs which is easy because the heart is right beside the lungs. When the blood reaches the lungs it drops off carbon dioxide for you to breath out air. And the blood grabs the oxygen when you breath in air. That blood heads back to your heart. When the blood comes back it is called systemic circulation. Systemic circulation uses major artery and veins to give oxygen rich blood to every body part and system. While blood travels it drops off nutrition and oxygen. Then the blood picks up carbon dioxide and other kinds of wastes to give to the kidneys which is part of the cardiovascular system. When blood returns it comes into the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava. Then it all goes again and again all night and all day.

  25. Heart • Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood into the body so that your body can get nutrition and oxygen. The heart is placed in the chest and about the size of your fist. This muscle never ever gets tired. It is not like any other muscle. This muscle is a very strong muscle but if you don’t exercise your heart will get very weak so you must exercise. The heart is in between the lungs. Then your rib cage protects your lungs and heart. The heart has four chambers. The two ones at the top are called the atrium. Then there’s the two bottom chambers. These are called the ventricles.

  26. Blood • Blood is a liquid that flows around your body to give the body energy. The blood carries around salt, sugar, nutrition and oxygen. Blood is also made in a tissue in the bone called Bone Marrow. The blood is also made from the heart. Every second three million red blood cells die inside you. Blood carries oxygen because to give your tissues air and other stuff inside your blood. Red Blood cells are also known as erythrocytes. The cells also contain a protein called hemoglobin. The white blood cells or leukocytes are bigger than your red cells . Some are big enough to surround germs and gobble them up. One drop of blood contains fifty million of red cells and one hundred thousand white blood cells and 2.5 million platelets. Plasma is a huge part in the blood. The color of Plasma is light yellow and is mostly made up of water.

  27. Red Blood Cells • Red blood cells are like the most common type of cell in your body. They transport oxygen or O2 to all the body systems. The air you breath in will travel into your lungs and then into the arteries in the lungs. Then the veins drop off carbon dioxide for you to breath out. 2.4 million erythrocytes are produced every second. Approximately quarter of the body are red blood cells.

  28. Pathogens/Diseases Welcome to the invaders that make you sick.

  29. Bacteria • A single celled microscopic organism and they make up one of the six kingdoms of life on Earth. They have all different kinds of forms like mouse bacteria looks like a mouse. There are about five-none million of them around you right now. Bacteria is everywhere around you like the air and food you eat daily. They mostly live in our food, water, air and even our body’s. Bacteria infection must be treated by anti-biotic like soar throat.

  30. Viruses • A virus is a small particle that needs a host cell to live in and make more other viruses .The Human Body is a good place for a virus to live in .The virus is made up of DNA/RNA .The DNA and RNA is surrounded by a protein called a capsid.Sometimes the protein is covered by the fatty membrane. Some viruses go into your body and do not even do one harmful thing to your body.

  31. Microbes

  32. Fungi

  33. HIV/AIDS • HIV causes particular trouble for the immune system. T cells stand guard over your body to destroy any foreign invaders. HIV directly attacks T cells leading to weakening of your immune system. When enough T cells are destroyed, other viruses that your body can usually destroy can cause serious health problems. Most of the time, this leads to death.

  34. SARS

  35. Fatal Lung Cancer • Lung cancer happens because the DNA is damaged by smoking and the lung cells grow crazy. The Lung will also burn a lot. The lobes in the Lung will be damaged too. Lung cancer is also one of the worlds deadliest cancer. Especially in the USA where it is the leading cause of cancer death.

  36. So to celebrate one of life’s greatest inventions, let’s keep it healthy and do our best to keep it that way until the day it goes away.

  37. Thank you for being an awesome audience by watching and listening attentively~~~ ^^
