Developing profitable non-core businesses 1.1 Communicate the UCOSP Vision at the AGM & secure member buy-in to Strategic Objectives – 29 August 2012 (PVR) 1.2 Continually encourage co-operation and unity of UCOSP membership (Board/Mngt) 1.3 Implement the Code of Good Loading Practise for all members – 30 September 2012 (BJ) 2.1 Determine Admin fixed cost allocation between Core Business and Non Core Business for annual budget commencing April 2013 (HdW/LM) 2.2 Implement Stemela Bosch’s Drainage Focus Strategies for completion over the next 3 years (EngMngr) 2.3 Conclude iSimangaliso co-operation agreement regarding back-up water levels by November 2012 (LM/CK/PVR) 2.4 Re-instate plant and equipment replacement programme in annual budget approval March 2013 (LM) 2.5 Review group loading options (areas / members / infrastructure) for 2013 season (BJ) 2.6 Ensure Umfolozi Sugar Mill sustainability and profitability for shareholder returns (PvR/CW/LM) 3.1 Timber : Re-locate 143ha on DWA approval – 2 years from approval (AgricMngr) 3.2 Sugarcane : Plant irrigated permit area (approx 200ha) on flood plain per USM agreement by December 2014 (AgricMngr) 3.3 Quarry : Secure business partners with funding options by April 2013 (LM) 3.4 CMS : Prepare business plan by December 2012 (LM) 3.5 Cell captive insurance: Prepare business plan with Alexander Forbes by December 2013 (LM) 3.6 Cattle : Prepare flood plain area (alien vegetation control) & present business plan by July 2014 (LM) 4.1 Secure Quarry products SABS accreditation by end August 2012 (HS) 4.2 Comply with NEMA alien vegetation control requirements for the flood plain (cattle) – start process by October 2012 (AgricMngr) 4.3 Conclude SARS diesel subsidy dispute by November 2012 (TB) 4.4 Obtain UCOSP’s Water Use certificate in terms of 1998 Water Act by November 2012 (LM) 4.5 Secure DME mining license conversion with PAJA application by April 2013 (TB) 4.6 Comply with Rail Safety Regulator level crossing requirements by June 2013 (BJ) 5.1 Conduct assessment of top management responsibilities and workload by end September 2012 (LM) 5.2 Source and appoint the appropriate staff for re-structure requirements by end March 2013 (LM) 5.3 Train and develop specialized staff functions for on-going succession planning (Mngt) • Member surveys • Maintain members costs within annual increases : inflation, diesel price and related to the cane price 1. MEMBERS: Buy-in and commitment to UCOSP Vision and Foundation • Tramline efficiency indicators & credible road transport comparison (50% by 2017) • Flood damage assessments • iSimangaliso agreement 2. CORE BUSINESS : Ensure reliable, efficient & cost effective systems • Umfolozi yield comparisons & industry benchmarks • Return on Investment with dividends paid to shareholders 3. NON CORE BUSINESS : To maximise Return On Investment Compliance by receipt of annual licences renewals and audit reports 4. LEGISLATIVE COMPLIANCE: 100% compliant and strict Corporate Governance 5. EMPLOYEES : Maintain a competent and committed workforce Performance appraisal for management and C Band staff The FOUNDATION to secure farming investment on the Umfolozi Flats is the continued Co-operation, Unity & Strength of UCOSP Members.
