    3. Objectives of Research Develop a systematic descriptive analysis of Recovery High School models and programs Educational Programming Therapeutic/Recovery Programming Student characteristics (relative to other treatment populations—GAIN) Contextual setting

    5. Objectives (continued) Use descriptive information to: Develop an outcomes research design to scientifically evaluate effectiveness and build the evidence base—submit R01 grant. Promulgate models to assist others to implement models with fidelity (“manualize”).

    6. Our Methods Sample: All recovery high schools with at least two years existence. Review written and web-based materials from schools Conduct 1 day site visit by 2 research staff during 2005-06 school year: Visit with director Tour facility Interview key staff one-on-one and/or group Survey Students as group—anonymous data—modified GAIN Survey for staff to complete Small group student interview(s) Follow-up by telephone, possibly repeat visit in Year 2

    7. Schools will be asked to: Provide existing written program information in advance. Assist in mailing information packets to parents. Schedule a day with us: Student survey and interview session(s) Staff Interviews and surveys. Review writeups on models and research design. Accept $500.
