  3. Quick Background • Wisconsin (with 5 other states) had the opportunity to participate in FFVP in 2006 as part of expansion efforts through H.R. 2744 the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2006

  5. Existing Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Department of Ed) • School Nutrition Team • Roles: • Provide overall program administration • Selection of schools • Assist with procurement, etc.

Existing Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Department of Health Services • Nutrition & Physical Activity Program • Roles: • Provide assistance with program evaluation; fruit and vegetable consumption and related measurements • Provide fruit and vegetable related-resources for schools • Assist with identifying nutrition education materials/resources for use in schools

Existing Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Home Grown Lunch Project • Roles: • Assist schools interested in procuring fruits and vegetables from local producers/farmers • Provide listing of producers/farmers that are interested in working with schools • Provide nutrition education materials and “snack bites” to FFVP Schools • Work directly with 1-3 schools receiving FFVP funding

Existing Partners & Roles • University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire • Economic & Psychology Departments • Roles: • Coordinated (collected and analyzed data) an extensive evaluation on the implementation of FFVP (2006-2007) in funded schools; pre-post student surveys • Coordinating a smaller evaluation of FFVP (2007-2008); 3 schools (2 intervention; 1 control) • Evaluation Instrument: http://www.uwec.edu/jamelsem/papers/healthy_lunch/wi_f-v_survey_final.pdf

  9. Existing Partners & Roles • Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation • Role: • Assisted with (analyzed data) an extensive evaluation on the implementation of FFVP (2006-2007) in funded schools; pre-post student surveys

  10. Existing Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Partnership for Activity & Nutrition (WI PAN) • Advocacy Committee • Role: • Provided grassroots advocacy efforts for 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Bill and 2008 Farm Bill; FFVP Funding • Continue to provide advocacy support as needed

New Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction • Nutrition Education Team (funded by Team Nutrition Grant) • Roles: • Provide information and guidance on the new Wisconsin Nutrition Education Standards to partners & schools • Provide nutrition education curriculum (future) to FFVP schools

New Partners & Roles • Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, & Consumer Protection • Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin Program • AmeriCorps Farm-to-School Pilot Program • Wisconsin Farm Center • Roles: • Provide schools with assistance and resources for procuring locally-grown produce • AmeriCorps to provide nutrition education in schools participating in FFVP and the Farm-to-School Pilot Program

  13. New Partners & Roles • University of Wisconsin-Extension • Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program (Federally Funded Food Stamp Program) • Roles: • Provide direct nutrition education to FFVP Schools (WNEP can work with schools with a student population that is 50% or greater free and reduced)
